2001 U-14 SCHEDULE and GAME SUMMARIES

Tuesday, June 19th
South Windsor 4, Vernon 3. Jenna Girard singled home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead South Windsor to a 4-3 victory over Vernon. Kathy Marulanda bunted her way on in the last inning and moved into scoring position on a fielder's choice. Marulanda had two hits as did Nettie Marciano. Christine Lemieux was the winning pitcher, recording 9 strikeouts. Mary Gordon pitched well for Vernon, supported by Rebecca Mattern's 2 RBI. Lisa Riendeau reached base safely twice.
Enfield1 15, Enfield2 5. Enfield1 opened the season with a win over their town rivals behind Kim Collins and Kelsey Flanagan. Cammie McComas and Kathryn Mullin led Enfield2.
Somers at Ellington postponed to Wednesday, August 1st.

Thursday, June 21st
South Windsor 38, Enfield2 1. Nicole Nixon pitched a one-hitter and struck out five as South Windsor dispatched Enfield2 in five innings. Monica Hamilton and Jenna Girard each had four hits while Emilie Aries added three, including a homerun. Cammie McComas pitched well for Enfield. Valerie Longhi collected the lone hit.
Manchester 8, Somers 7. Manchester opened their first NCGSL season with an 8-7 win at Somers. Katie Viara pitched the complete game win and received defensive support from Rachel Kane and Kara Peruccio. Tara Butler pitched well in the loss. Crista Maggio and Monica Palmer had good games for Somers.
Vernon at Enfield1 (EHS) postponed to Wednesday, August 1st.

Tuesday, June 26th
South Windsor 26, Somers 1. South Windsor upped its record to 3-0 as Ashley Hovland and Bree Varley each hit a double and two singles. Jenna Girard continued her hot batting with 4 hits and Rachel Hamilton added three. Somers' Melissa Vamvilis and Tara Butler also had good games at the plate.
Vernon 30, Ellington 4. Vernon won at home as Rebecca Mattern hit a homerun, double and 2 singles. Lisa Riendeau had 3 hits and Brittany Bamforth tripled and made a great catch in the outfield. Mallory Householder pitched well for Ellington. Amy Hartman had a good game on defense and Carolyn Burgess led the hitters.
Manchester 18, Enfield2 6. Manchester bested visiting Enfield2 behind the offense of Melinda Carlson. Amy Howroyd and Nicole Sapienza had good games in the field. Brittany Stetson led the Enfield2 hitters and Leanne Jones played well on defense.

Thursday, June 28th
South Windsor 19, Enfield1 4. Danielle Cowee pitched visiting South Windsor past Enfield1. She also aided her cause at the plate with two hits. Rachel Hamilton and Jennifer Frenett led a fine defensive effort. Chelsea Aiken and Regina Falkowski played well for Enfield1.
Vernon 34, Enfield2 5. Vernon beat guest Enfield2 by a score of 34-5. Amanda Viens led the Vernon hitters with a triple and two singles. Alex Coll also had three hits, including a double. Beth Paterson pitched an outstanding game to get the win. Enfield2 received good games from Christina Sheehan, Kara Pellin and Katelyn Pellin.
Ellington 17, Manchester 4. Alyssa Skewes pitched the complete game win over visiting Manchester, recording 7 strikeouts. Stephanie Weintraub knocked in three runs with a pair of hits. Michelle Householder also had two hits for the winners. Nicole Sapienza led the Manchester batters. Maggie Schwind and Caitlin Peruccio played well in the field.

Tuesday, July 3rd
Enfield1 23, Ellington 9. Enfield1 downed Ellington by a score of 23-9. Amanda Farnan tripled and also made a nice catch in the outfield. Kyleen Klement also tripled and played well defensively at first base. Dawn Ezold also had a good night in the field. Alyssa Skewes pitched well in the loss. Last-minute catcher Amy Hartman had a good game behind the plate and Johanna Harty made a great play at second base.
South Windsor 23, Manchester 7. South improved to 5-0 after defeating Manchester 23-7. Bree Varley led the offense with a triple and a double. Kathy Marulanda, Monica Hamilton and Jenna Girard contributed 2 hits apiece. Jenny Bunce pitched a good game for Manchester. Katelyn Johnson had a nice hit and Amy Howroyd played good defense.
Somers 17, Enfield2 11. Somers won its first game on the road behind the pitching of Mindy Oswell and Tara Butler. Monica Palmer and Melissa Vamvilis both played well in sharing catching duties. Monica also hit a double. Leading the hitting for Somers were Nancy Gilbert, Ursula Williams, Amber Blaisdell, Michelle Milliken, Lindsay Squire, Melissa Vamvilis, Tara Butler and Mindy Oswell. Cammie McComas and Katelyn Pellin played well for Enfield2.

Thursday, July 5th
Ellington 18, Enfield2 11.(see photos) Ellington got back into the 'W' column, outscoring Enfield2 by an 18-11 margin. Alyssa Skewes got the complete game win, striking out twelve. She also helped herself at the plate with two hits and two RBI. Carolyn Burgess also had two hits. Beth Sullivan, Amy Hartman, Lindsay Gondek, Sam Blanchard and Jamie Blanchard all had hits and played well in the field. Dawn Ezold tripled and singled for Enfield2. Katelyn Pellin and Valerie Longhi played well on defense.
Vernon at Manchester ppd. due to rain; rescheduled to Monday, July 30th.
Friday, July 6th
Enfield1 15, Somers 7. Enfield1 defeated host Somers 15-7 in the first game of a U-14/U-16 twinbill. Dawn Ezold pitched the win and got support from Alyssa Cannella and Kyleen Klement. For Somers Tara Butler, Kayla Bower and Jenna Cunningham had good games.
BYE: South Windsor.
Tuesday, July 10th
South Windsor 14, Ellington 12. After a slow start, South Windsor took the lead in the fifth inning and held on to nip visiting Ellington. Christine Lemieux came in to pitch in the 5th and held Ellington to two hits. Jenna Girard led a 6-run rally in the home half of that inning. Jennifer Frenett played a great defensive game for the winners. Margaret Deptula headed the Ellington offense with 2 hits and 2 RBI. Leanne Golden, Mallory Householder, Jessica Mozzicato, Tina Pagano, Jamie Blanchard and Beth Sullivan all had base hits. Alyssa Skewes pitched a complete game and took the loss for Ellington.
Vernon 16, Somers 1. Vernon's offense hit on all cylinders and downed the Somers Titans by a 16-1 margin. Mary Gordon pitched 3 innings of shutout softball, striking out six. She also helped herself at the plate with two hits. Erin Diette crushed a 2-run homer and Sherri Gandini doubled. Beth Paterson and Kaylee Santuccio both went 2 for 2. Tara Butler and Crista Maggio both had good games for Somers.
Enfield1 18, Manchester 10. Enfield1 won its third straight on the road at Manchester. Lauren Miles earned the win, striking out eight in 5 innings. Batterymate Chelsea Aiken had a good night behind the plate and Amanda Farnan supplied some of the offense with two doubles and a single. Amanda Hill also had a good game on defense with a great catch in the outfield. Manchester featured good play by Sarah Kane, Rachel Kane and Shannon Walsh.

Thursday, July 12th
South Windsor 11, Vernon 10. In an exciting sequel to their season opener, South Windsor came from behind to again edge Vernon, this time as visitors. Bree Varley tagged a two-run homer in the seventh inning to tie the game. Christine Lemieux then singled, stole second and scored on an error for the go ahead run. Sarah Archambeault, Jennifer Frenett and Rachel Hamilton all contributed two hits apiece while Erin Coburn had 2 RBI. Christine Lemieux got the complete game win for South. Mary Gordon pitched well for Vernon and took the loss. Rachel Laster and Jen Paris had good games at the plate.
Enfield1 15, Enfield2 10.(see photos) Enfield1 won its fourth in a row in a 15-10 decision over Enfield2. Tamara Roman's homerun and Amy Angeloni's two hits were highlights of Enfield1's offense. Kelsey Flanigan played well defensively. Kim Spradley and Kara Pellin played well for Enfield2.

Ellington at Somers postponed to Wednesday, July 25th (7:00PM)

Tueday, July 17th
Vernon 16, Enfield1 1. Amanda Viens had a big night at the plate (4 hits, including 2 homeruns, 5 RBI and 3 runs scored) as Vernon downed Enfield1. Mary Gordon pitched four scoreless innings and had two hits. Beth Paterson pitched three innings and hit a bases-loaded triple and a single.
South Windsor 18, Enfield2 2. South improved to 8-0 as Danielle Cowee earning the win, striking out six in 4 innings. Ashley Hovland (3 hits), Emilie Aries, Bree Varley and Jenna White brought the offense. Leanne Jones led the Enfield2 hitters and Val Longhi played well on defense.
Somers 11, Manchester 6. The Titans went on the road and defeated Manchester 11-6 behind Tara Butler's 7-strikeout pitching performance. Alysa Craig hit a double and Crista Maggio also hit well. Manchester featured good play by Nicole Sapienza, Rachel Kane and Amy Howroyd.

Thursday, July 19th
Vernon 19, Ellington 3. (see photos) Vernon visited Ellington and came away with a 19-3 win. Rachel Laster had a 5-hit game with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Melissa Rebai had a pair of hits and also fielded well. Mary Gordon pitched 4 innings, yielding only two hits. Amy Hartman led Ellington with two hits and also had a good game at shortstop. Catcher Tina Pagano reached base twice and also threw out two baserunners attempting to steal. Michelle Householder scored two runs and Jamie Blanchard had a nice hit.
Manchester 18, Enfield2 14. Manchester won on the road as Andrea Quintiliani and Rachel Kane made key defensive plays. Katelyn Johnson led the hitters. Valerie Longhi played well on defense for Enfield2. Barbara Kaplan and Sarah Kauffman also had good games.
Friday, July 20th
South Windsor 17, Somers 3. (see photos)In the first game of a U-14/U-16 doubleheader at Rye Street Park, Christine Lemieux and Danielle Cowee held the Titans to 3 hits to lead South Windsor past visiting Somers by a score of 17-3. Jennifer Frenett and Lemieux (triple) went 3 for 3 at the plate and Ashley Hovland chipped in with 2 hits for South. Nancy Gilbert, Emily Brown and Melissa Vamvilis got the Somers hits.
BYE: Enfield1.
Tuesday, July 24th
South Windsor 12, Enfield1 9. In a close contest all the way, South edged visiting Enfield1 12-9. Jen Wallace (double) and Ashley Hovland led the hitters with two hits each. Danielle Cowee played well defensively. Kim Collins, Alyssa Cannella (double) and Amanda Hill had good games for Enfield1.
Ellington 15, Manchester 7. Alyssa Skewes pitched the complete game win at Manchester, striking out 14. Amy Hartman doubled and singled and also threw out a baserunner attempting to steal home. Michelle Householder had two hits and two RBI and Jena Savage singled. Ashley Bilodeau had a good game at the plate for Manchester. Sarah Kane and Melinda Carlson led the defense.
Vernon 24, Enfield2 2. Homeruns by Erin Diette and Leighann Caron (4 runs scored) propelled visiting Vernon past Enfield2. Eliza Paterson had two hits and scored three runs. Brittany Stetson played well on defense for Enfield2 and Jess Zaine did a good job pitching.

Wednesday, July 25th
Ellington 31, Somers 13. (from 7/13) Ellington's offense hit on all cylinders in a make-up game under the lights in Somers. Amy Hartman led the barrage with a 3-run homer, triple and single. Tina Pagano (triple and two doubles), Elizabeth Maxwell (double and two singles), Margaret Deptula (double and single) and Stephanie Weintraub (two singles) supplied more of the offense. Leanne Golden had three assists at second base and Jenna Helenski displayed alert baserunning that kept Ellington in position to score. Somers featured hits from Ursula Williams, Emily Brown and Monica Palmer.
Thursday, July 26th
Enfield1 8, Ellington 7 (8 innings). High Grade Propane Enfield1 defeated Ellington in an exciting extra-inning contest. Homestanding Ellington rallied from a 3-run deficit in the bottom of the 7th inning to tie the game. Enfield1 managed a run in the top of the 8th and hung on to win. Kim Collins pitched the complete game win with the solid defensive support of Tamara Roman and Dawn Ezold. Alyssa Skewes pitched well in the loss. Jenna Helenski and Amy Hartman had good nights at the plate. The Ellington players and coaches would like to extend a fond farewell to teammate Jenna Helenski, who is moving to Florida.
South Windsor at Manchester postponed to Wednesday, August 1st.
Friday, July 27th
Somers 20, Enfield2 19. The Somers Titans defeated Enfield2 behind the pitching and hitting of Crista Maggio and Mindy Oswell. Michelle Milliken had a double for the Titans. Also hitting well for Somers were Kayla Bower, Nancy Gilbert and Monica Palmer. Kim Spradley pitched and hit well for Enfield2. Michele Longhi and Kari West also had hits.
BYE: Vernon.
Monday, July 30th
Vernon 11, Manchester 1. (from 7/5) Vernon won at Manchester in a game rescheduled from July 5th. Erin Diette led the hitters with 3 singles and a triple. Kaylee Santuccio had 2 singles and a double and made a great catch in the outfield. Mary Gordon struck out eight in 5 innings and helped the offense with a double and a single. Manchester's Katie Viara pitched well in the loss. Jenny Bunce and Caitlin Peruccio had good defensive games.
Tuesday, July 31st
Enfield1 11, Somers 10. Amanda Farnan pitched the win for Enfield1. Lauren Miles had two hits and Kyleen Klement had a good game in the field. Mindy Oswell pitched well for Somers. Kayla Bower (2H) and Melissa Vamvilis led the Somers offense.
Ellington 30, Enfield2 1. Jenna Savage and Mallory Householder combined to pitch the win at Enfield. Mallory also hit a homerun to help herself. Jamie Blanchard did well behind the plate and Johanna Hardy assisted on a double play and had a good game at the plate. Katelyn Pellin and Barbara Kaplan both pitched well for Enfield. Kari West led the hitters.
Vernon 16, Manchester 1. Vernon won at home behind the bats of Kaylee Santuccio (homerun,double,single), Erin Diette (homerun,3 singles) and Sherri Gandini (homerun). Eliza Paterson reached base four times and Beth Paterson struck out five in relief. Manchester featured good play by Ann Rosenstreich, Shannon Walsh and Katelyn Johnson.

Wednesday, August 1st
South Windsor 17, Manchester 4. (from 7/26) South Windsor clinched first place in the U-14 regular season as Danielle Cowee yielded just two hits and struck out ten batters in 5 innings pitched to earn the win. Jen Frenett and Jenna Girard had 3 hits apiece and Nicole Nixon had two. Katie Viara (12K) pitched well in the loss. Shannon Walsh and Annie Rosenstreich also had good games for Manchester.
Vernon 13, Enfield1 8. (from 6/21) Visiting Vernon defeated Enfield1 13-8 to nail down second place for the U-14 regular season. Rachel Laster tripled and singled, Amanda Viens singled twice and Erin Diette continued her hot hitting with a double and single. Jen Paris and Lisa Riendeau played well defensively. Kim Collins pitched a great game for Enfield1. Kyleen Klement and Amy Angeloni played very well in the field.
Ellington 18, Somers 16. (from 6/19) Mallory Householder's second homerun in as many games highlighted Ellington's win over Somers. Alyssa Skewes pitched well to get the decision. Margaret Deptula, Tina Pagano and JoJo Harty made the defensive difference in this close contest. Somers' Crista Maggio took the loss and had three hits on offense. Mindy Oswell (2 triples, 2 singles), Melissa Vamvilis (2 hits), Kayla Bower (2 hits) and Alysa Craig (double) had good nights at the plate.
Thursday, August 2nd
South Windsor 15, Ellington 1. South Windsor completed their undefeated season with a 15-1 decision at Ellington. Christine Lemieux pitched a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts. She helped herself on offense with a single and a bases-loaded triple. Rachel Hamilton went 3 for 3 and Bree Varley added two hits. Alyssa Skewes pitched well for Ellington. Tina Pagano and JoJo Harty led the defense.
Enfield1 14, Manchester 7. Enfield1 won at home as Alyssa Cannella drove in four runs with a single, double and triple. Kelsey Flanigan had a tremendous game behind the plate, throwing out three attempted basestealers. Sue Scanlon also came up big defensively, throwing out a runner at third base. Melinda Carlson pitched a good game for Manchester. Katelyn Johnson and Andrea Quintiliani had good games in the field.
Vernon 21, Somers 3. Vernon left Somers with a win as Melissa Rebai had a big night at the plate with two triples and two singles. Beth Paterson (homerun and single), Erin Diette (triple), Kaylee Santuccio (triple and 2 singles), Eliza Paterson (2 singles) and Leighann Caron (double and 2 singles) were other contributors on offense. Somers' Mindy Oswell pitched well and had one hit at the plate. Melissa Vamvilis and Michelle Milliken also had hits.
