2004 U-14 SEASON GAME SUMMARIES

Tuesday, June 29th
Enfield 5, Ellington 4 (8 innings). Enfield opened their season with an extra-inning win over Ellington. Kim Collins picked up the win, striking out twelve. Cara Angeloni, Courtney Cannella and Mindy Kodosh had good games at the plate. Lindsay Gondek pitched well for Ellington and Amanda Blanchard and Taylor Brown had key hits.
Suffield 11, South Windsor 4. Sam Cieri pitched a no-hitter as Suffield downed South 11-4. Jen Thresher had an outstanding game at shortstop and Barbara Kaplan also played very well in the field. Lauren Greider pitched well for South Windsor but took the loss. Alex Powell had a good night in centerfield and Lindsay Varley did well offensively.
Somers 17, Marlborough 0. Somers bested Marlborough 17-0 in a game shortened to five innings. Kacey Oswell (4 innings, 10K) and Kara McGuane combined on a two-hitter. The offense was led by Chelsie Merone, with 3 hits including a homerun and Kara McGuane, who also homered. Kacey Oswell, Katie Trask, Monica Palmer, Mandy Stanton and Liz Mashiak each had two hits. Jojo Meunier and Nicole Vamvilis led Somers' defense. Emily Hummel pitched a good game for Marlborough. She and Kelli Breeden both had hits.
East Hartford 10, East Windsor 9. With outstanding pitching from Lisa Donato and strong hitting from Lynne Foran and Brittany Brashier, East Hartford held on to win despite a late surge by East Windsor. Amy Quattropani put in a full night behind the plate, preventing opposing baserunners from advancing. East's late rally was highlighted by the fine pitching of Melissa Hunt and outstanding defense by Maria Vromans. Karissa Parker had a pair of singles to lead the hitters.
Vernon 19, West Hartford 12. Vernon opened with a win on the road as Brianna Weaver tripled, doubled and stole a base. Cassie Saxer added a double, single and a stolen base. Catcher Mary Falkowski had a good game defensively. For West Hartford I, Kristen Montano had an outstanding defensive game combined with good baserunning. Nicole Malenfant and Amber Zike also made solid contributions to the game.
Manchester Blue 10, Manchester Red 2. Manchester Blue won their opener powered by the hitting of Katie Viara, Nicole Sapienza and Hannah Howroyd. Amy Pearl, Joanna Kinghorn and Trixie Umali played well for the rival Red Devils.
Thursday, July 1st
Manchester Red 14, Marlborough 9. Danielle Leone pitched well and rearned the win as Manchester Red evened their record. Courtney Novak and Andrea Chudzik paced the Red Devil offense. Kelsey Welling pitched a good game but took the loss. Emily Hummel and Michelle Bernard both contributed on offense and defense for Marlborough.
Somers 6, South Windsor 3. Somers downed South Windsor 6-3 in a well-played game by both teams. Kacey Oswell pitched a complete game for Somers, striking out 13. She also had 3 RBIs, going 2 for 3 including a bases-loaded triple. Monica Palmer caught the complete game and went 2 for 3 at the plate. Nicole Vamvilis also had two hits, while Kara McGuane, Mandy Stanton, Amy Dubiel, Jill Turgeon, Brittany Irish and Jo-Jo Meunier all contributed with singles. For South Windsor, Rochelle Normandin also pitched a complete game and went 2 for 3 at the plate. Christine Gerrity played a good defensive game behind the plate. Jen Hunt also was 2 for 3 at the plate.
Ellington 9, East Windsor 7. Lindsey Gondek allowed four hits and struck out 18 as Ellington topped East Windsor. Amanda Landry played well defensively while Taylor Brown, Chelsea Alves and Holly Sander paced the offense. Melissa Hunt pitched well for East Windsor. Lindsey Nelson had a double, triple, 3 RBIs and a run scored and Heather St.Amour had two hits and two runs scored.
Manchester Blue 2, Enfield 0. Manchester Blue and Enfield's first rematch from last year's U-14 tournament championship game resulted in a 2-0 win for Manchester. Katie Viara and Enfield's Kim Collins both pitched well with 10 strikeouts apiece. The Manchester Blue offense was provided by Maura Bergan, Becca Thompson, Annie Rosenstreicht, Sarah Kane, Marisa Conyers and Katie Viara with one hit each. Defensive stars for Enfield were Natalie Kyparidis, Sara Aiudi and catcher Chelsea Aiken.
East Hartford 12, West Hartford II 5.

Monday, July 5th
West Hartford I 19, Somers 13. (from 7/9) West Hartford jumped out to an early lead and then held off a strong comeback by Somers. The winner's offense was led by Kate Mainelli (single,double,triple), Kristen Montano (single,double), Sarah Howard (single,triple), Jen Matthews (single,double) and Allison Czapla (2 singles). Nicole Stankoski and Kate Mainelli combined to pitch the win. Somers had key hits from Kasey Oswell (2 hits), Kara McGuane, Kim Plagenza and Nicole Vamvilis. McGuane pitched well for Somers (3 innings, 8K) with strong relief from Oswell (3 innings, 7K).
Tuesday, July 6th
Enfield 6, East Windsor 3. Kim Collins struck out 18 and got the win as Enfield won at home. Nicole Delano, Natalie Kyparidis and Amanda Meunier had key hits on offense. Heather St.Amour pitched well for East but took the loss. Lindsay Mulnite had a good night at the plate and Lindsay Lachance played well on defense.
West Hartford I 27, West Hartford II 10. West Hartford I won as Kate Mainelli had 4 hits, and Jennifer Matthews and Allison Czapla had three apiece. Vanessa Morales and Maureen Martucci had two hits each. Nicole Stankoski picked up the win with relief from Kate Mainelli (2 innings,5Ks). Lauren Towers doubled and singled to lead West Hartford II. Sarah Hamilton and Sheray Felice also contributed key hits. Alicia Lambert pitched well with relief from Amanda George.
Vernon 10, South Windsor 9. Vernon came from behind to down South Windsor, scoring four runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. Cassie Saxer knocked in the deciding run. Dana Carpenter pitched well and also had an RBI. Erin Skoly also had a key hit in the rally. Alyssa Rodrigues had a good game on offense for South Windsor. Christine Gerrity did well behind the plate on defense.
Somers 9, Manchester Red 6. Somers held off Manchester Red's seventh inning rally to win 9-6 in a close game well played by both teams. Kacey Oswell pitched a complete game and got the win, striking out 15 batters. She also had two hits, as did Nicole Vamvilis. Jill Turgeon and Brittany Irish contributed one hit each. Anna Piggott pitched well for Manchester. Shannon Walsh and Meg Godwin had good overall games.
Ellington 14, East Hartford 5. Lindsey Gondek pitched Ellington past East Hartford, striking out 18 and allowing just three hits. Emily Savino had two hits, 2 RBIs and three runs scored. Taylor Brown had two hits, 2 RBIs and two runs scored. Bridget Millane and Kelly McPartland also had two hits each. For East Hartford, Jenna Allison (2 hits) and Katie Coiteux led the offense.

Thursday, July 8th
Enfield 6, East Hartford 0 (5 innings). Enfield downed East Hartford 6-0 in a game shortened by rain. Kim Collins pitched five no-hit innings, striking out 12. Megan Chipman and Courtney Cannella hit triples and Natalie Kyparidis had a great game on defense at first base and at catcher. Standouts for East Hartford were pitcher Lisa Donato, Lynne Foran on defense and catcher Amy Quattropani, were threw out two baserunners at second base.
Vernon 12, West Hartford II 2. Eliza Paterson pitched Vernon past West Hartford II. Brianna Weaver continued her hot hitting with a homerun and a single. Mary Falkowski contributed a double to the offense. Alicia Lambert pitched well for West Hartford II. Batterymate Lauren Towers had a good game behind the plate and Emma Karpowicz did well on offense.
South Windsor 17, Marlborough 2. A balanced offensive showing along with the solid pitching of Rochelle Normandin led South Windsor over Marlborough. Lauren Greider homered among three hits and Lindsay Varley homered and singled. Pacing the Marlborough offense were Chrissie Swider, Casey Schaus and Emily Hummel.
Manchester Blue 11, East Windsor 0. Katie Viara went 4 for 4 and pitched a complete game shutout with 17 strikeouts as Manchester Blue downed East Windsor. Michele Graboski and Annie Pagano had two hits apiece. Becca Thompson had a strong defensive game behind the plate. Karissa Parker hit a triple for East Windsor and Victoria Rametta went 2 for 2 at the plate. Chelsea Parker played well defensively.

Wednesday, July 14th
West Hartford II 13, Manchester Red 12. (from 7/13) West Hartford II held on and won with good pitching from Amanda George and Alicia Lambert, who also had two hits. Emma Karpowicz had a bases-loaded triple. Jordan Worshoufsky added a double. Lauren Towers did a good job behind the plate. Christine Wakefield, Danielle Leone and Meg Godwin played well for Manchester Red.
Thursday, July 15th
Enfield 9, Suffield 2. Leehna Ware and Kim Collins combined on a no-hitter over Suffield, striking out 17 and walking two. Defensively, Kelly Collins played well at second base and Sara Aiudi in left field. Angela Moskwa and Jen Silva both pitched well for Suffield.
Manchester Blue 2, South Windsor 1. Manchester Blue topped South Windsor 2-1 in a well-played defensive game. Each hitting two-baggers for the Blues were Sarah Kane, Katie Viara and Annie Rosenstreich, who also made some key defensive plays. Viara pitched a complete game, striking out 13 batters. South's Kim Colla also pitched a complete game, taking the loss. Marianne Specker led the South Windsor offense while Rachel Clymer played well defensively.
East Windsor 28, West Hartford I 26. East Windsor jumped out to a 24-6 lead and hung on to win 28-26 over West Hartford I. Lindsey Nelson (two doubles) and Becky Brown (3 for 4) headed the East Windsor offense. Jillian Cote had a good game on both sides of the ball. Kristen Montano had two hits and 5 RBIs and Maureen Martucci knocked in four runs for West Hartford I.

Vernon at Ellington - rescheduled to Wednesday, July 28th.
Friday, July 16th
South Windsor 8, Manchester Red 4. South Windsor came from behind to defeat Manchester Red 8-4. South was led offensively by Jen Hunt (2 hits) and Chelsea Ellington (double) while Kelly Burtchell had a good game in the field. Danielle Leone pitched a strong game for Red. Stefanie Grande and Kristen Gentilcore played well both on offense and defense for Manchester.
Somers 19, East Hartford 12. Visiting Somers came from behind with an 8-run sixth inning to defeat East Hartford 19-12. Monica Palmer, who went 3 for 4, had a 3-run double and Mandy Stanton, also with 3 hits, hit a 2-run double. Kara McGuane and winning pitcher Kacey Oswell (8Ks) also had three hits apiece. Kelly Fitzgerald led the East Hartford offense with three hits. Kelsey Keena played well defensively and starter Kristina Liner pitched well.
West Hartford II at Ellington - rescheduled to Wednesday, July 21st.

Saturday, July 17th
Suffield 21, West Hartford I 6. (from 7/8) Suffield won at West Hartford, led by Alex Wilson (double, single, good OF defense) and Taylor Bartini, who had two hits and turned a double play at second base. Allison Czapla had a pair of hits for West Hartford and Maureen Martucci had a good game in the field.
Sunday, July 18th
West Hartford I 5, East Hartford 4. (from 7/13) West Hartford I defeated East Hartford in a very well played defensive game. Nicole Stankoski, Laura Mainelli and Kate Mainelli combined to pitch a two-hitter. West Hartford was led offensively by Kate Mainelli (homerun,single), Nicole Malenfant (triple) and Allison Czapla (double). Jennifer Matthews had a good game behind the plate. Christina Liner pitched a good game for East Hartford. Kelsey Keena (SS) and Jenna Allison (3B) anchored the defense.
Tuesday, July 20th
East Windsor 21, West Hartford II 8. Trailing 8-6 entering the fifth inning, East Windsor scored 15 unanswered runs to down West Hartford II. Melissa Hunt pitched well for East, striking out eleven. C.J.Wrona went 2 for 4 and Jillian Cote hit a double. Defensively, Becky Brown converted a double play in the third inning and catcher Lindsey "Long Arm Lou" Nelson also had a good game. Rachel McGrath led the offense for West Hartford. Jenna Allen played well on defense and Sarah Hamilton had a good overall game.
Vernon 28, Marlborough 1. Vernon pitchers Dana Carpenter and Kelly Cocco combined to stifle the Marlborough offense.
Enfield 22, Somers 7. Enfield downed visiting Somers as Leehna Ware went 3 for 3 at the plate and Amanda Meunier singled and had 3 RBIs. Shawna Lothian and Chelsea Aiken both played well behind the plate. Kacey Oswell (2 hits) and Monica Palmer (single) had good games for Somers.
Manchester Blue 17, East Hartford 12. Sarah Kane and Melanie Berman both went 4 for 4 as Manchester Blue outscored East Hartford. Annie Rosenstreich pitched a complete game and also went 3 for 4 at the plate. Rachel Kane tripled among three hits. Jen Smith and Amy Howroyd were defensive standouts, making key plays in the field.
West Hartford I 17, South Windsor 8. (from 7/29) West Hartford I settled down after a shaky first inning behind the pitching of Nikki Stankoski and Katie Mainelli (3 hitless innings). Jen Matthews (2 hits,3 runs), Allison Czapla (double,single) and Mainelli (double,two singles) led the winner's offense. Angie Ruiz played an excellant defensive game for West Hartford. Jen Hunt led South Windsor's offense with two hits. Alicia Morrison reached base twice and played well defensively. Alyssa Wolejko pitched four strong relief innings, allowing only three runs and striking out six.
Suffield 17, Manchester Red 11. Suffield downed Manchester Red 17-11 in an offensive shootout. Shannon Walsh, Kelly Gentilcore and Joanna Kinghorn led the offense for Red. Jen Thresher had another solid game at shortstop for Suffield and Jen Silva was outstanding behind the plate.
Wednesday, July 21st
Ellington 18, West Hartford II 3. (from 7/16) Lindsey Gondek struck out 8 in four innings, allowing no hits, in a game shortened to five innings. Courtney Horvath relieved and pitched a hitless fifth inning. Ashleigh Williams and Amanda Landry paced the offense with two hits each, with 5 RBIs and 5 runs scored between them. Alicia Lambert's pitching kept the game close, 5-3 after 3 innings, and she also scored one of West Hartford's runs. Emma Karpowicz and Jordan Worshoufsky also played well for West Hartford II.
Thursday, July 22nd
Manchester Red 24, West Hartford I 19. Manchester Red got back on the winning track with a 24-19 victory over West Hartford I. Yomarie Rodriguez's bases loaded triple highlighted the Manchester offense. Ariel Diaz and Joanna Kinghorn each chipped in with two hits apiece. Danielle Leone and Jordin Purcell-Riess combined to pitch the win for Manchester. Kate Mainelli paced the West Hartford offense with 4 hits and 4 runs scored, while Jennifer Matthews added 2 hits and 4 runs. Nicole Malenfant celebrated her birthday with a hit and four runs scored.
South Windsor 15, Ellington 11. South Windsor held on to defeat Ellington 15-11 behind Christine Gerrity (2 hits, 3 runs), Rochell Normandin (3 runs) and Rachel Clymer, who hit a key 2-RBI single. Leading Ellington offensively were Kelly McPartland (2 hits, 2 runs) and Chelsea Alves (double, single, 2 runs). Courtney Horvath pitched well in relief and also scored two runs.
Enfield 3, Vernon 0. In a defensive game, Enfield edged Vernon 3-0. Britni Siana scored the first two runs with aggressive baserunning. Natalie Kyparidis singled and scored the final Enfield run. Kim Collins got the win, striking out 14, allowing four hits and walking five. Dana Carpenter pitched a strong complete game for Vernon. Catcher Mary Falkowski had a good game defensively and Lauren Morency did well at the plate.
Somers 10, East Windsor 0. Somers beat East Windsor behind the complete game pitching of Kacey Oswell, who threw a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts. Monica Palmer and Mandy Stanton led the offense with three hits each. Ani Kerr and Amy Dubiel both contributed to the offense with key hits. Missy Hunt pitched well for East Windsor, but took the loss. Heather St.Amour pitched well in relief and had a hit, along with Dee Crosby. Becky Brown had a good defensive game.
Suffield 20, Marlborough 1. In a game shortened to five innings, Liz Breen allowed two hits and struck out four in a strong pitching performance for Suffield. Sam Cieri led the offense with a 5-RBI, 4 for 4 night at the plate including two singles, a double, a homerun and 3 runs scored. Marlborough's Christine Apatow had a double and Michelle Bernard singled for the visitors.
Manchester Blue 15, West Hartford II 8. Manchester Blue downed West Hartford II 15-8 in a game well played by both teams. Annie Rosenstreich pitched a complete game for the Blue. She and Marisa Conyers both had three hits apiece. Amy Howroyd and Michele Graboski made key defensive plays for Manchester. West Hartford's Alicia Lambert pitched seven strong innings. Catherine Montagino played a good defensive game behind the plate and Lauren Towers had two big hits.

Friday, July 23rd
Ellington at Manchester Red (COP) (from 7/8) - postponed by rain to a later date.
Monday, July 26th
East Windsor 9, South Windsor 7. (from 7/30) Missy Hunt pitched the win for East Windsor. She also hit a 3-run double which proved to be the deciding runs of the game. Catcher Lindsey Nelson threw out two baserunners and Jillian Cote also played well defensively. Jill Toce and Ally Powell each had two hits for South Windsor. Lauren Greider pitched a good game but took the loss.
Tuesday, July 27th
South Windsor 17, East Hartford 2. South Windsor used a balanced offense to defeat East Hartford 17-2. Leading that offense was Rochelle Normandin (3 hits with 2 doubles), Lindsay Varley (2 hits, double), Marianne Specker (2 hits, triple) and Rachel Clymer (2 hits). Ashley Appel paced East Hartford with 2 hits, including a double.
Enfield 22, West Hartford II 2 (4 innings). Enfield's offense came alive with Cara Angeloni and Courtney Cannella both going 3 for 3 and scoring 4 runs apiece. Kim Collins hit a 2-run homer and Sara Aiudi played well on defense. Standouts for West Hartford II were pitcher Amanda George, Jordan Worshoufsky on offense and Catherine Montagino on defense.
Somers 3, Suffield 2. Somers won a close, well played battle against visiting Suffield, scoring three runs in the first inning and holding on for a 3-2 win. Kacey Oswell led Somers, pitching a complete game one-hitter, striking out 13 batters. She also helped herself with a hit. Monica Palmer had a triple and played a great game behind the plate. Kara McGuane hit a double and Jill Turgeon had a great defensive game and contributed a hit, as did Liz Mashiak. Suffield's Sam Cieri pitched 4 innings of shutout relief, striking out ten. Jen Silva had the lone hit and Taylor Bartini played well defensively.
Manchester Red 8, Vernon 7. Manchester Red downed visiting Vernon at Charter Oak Field. With an impending storm approaching, both teams took the field in an impressive display of both offense and defense. A steady rain also took the field by the second inning and remained for the entire game, making for some of the hardest defensive play and baserunning yet seen this year. Manchester's starter, Danielle Leone pitched a complete game, striking out eight of the batters she faced. Shannon Walsh drove in three runs with two doubles. Kelly Gentilcore, the team's youngest player, also came aboard with two RBIs to help the team to a hard 8-7 win. Vernon dug deep in the top of the seventh inning to put on the tieing run but with the steady rain on th already wet infield, anything on the ground just couldn't get through. Brianna Weaver, Mary Falkowski and Erin Skoly put on a spectacular offensive display of putting runners across the plate.
Ellington 18, Marlborough 14. Ellington edged visiting Marlborough as Emily Savino had three hits, including a 3-run homer, with 6 RBIs and 4 runs scored. Bridget Millane and Holly Sander both had a double, a single and scored three times. Taylor Brown had two singles. Amanda Blanchard had 5 assists and two putouts, including a double play, to lead the defense. Mallory Grosso and Casey Schaus had two hits apiece to pace the Marlborough hitters.

Manchester Blue at Somers (from 7/13) - postponed to Wednesday, August 4th.

Thursday, July 29th
Manchester Red 12, East Windsor 8. Manchester Red won at East Windsor as Yomarie Rodriguez doubled and drove in 4 runs. Courtney Novak had 3 RBIs and Amy Pearl executed a squeeze play and also played well at shortstop. Jillian Cote had two doubles and 3 RBIs for East Windsor. CJ Wrona had two hits and Lindsey "Long Arm Lou" Nelson threw out two baserunners attempting to steal second base. Lindsay LaChance and Maria Vromans had good games defensively.
Enfield 7, South Windsor 4. (from 7/13) Enfield made it seven wins in a row behind the pitching of KIm Collins (11Ks,1BB) and the defense of Kelly Collins at second base and Dora Butler at first base. Sara Aiudi had two hits and ran the bases well. South Windsor pitcher Alicia Morrison helped herself with two hits and Marianne Specker had two hits and two RBIs.
Suffield 21, East Hartford 1. (5 innings) Suffield downed East Hartford 21-1 behind another strong pitching performance by Liz Breen. Despite being knocked down by a line drive to the chin in the 5th inning, Liz showed tremendous determination picking herself up, dusting herself off, and finishing the game. Jen Silva powered the offense going 2 for 2 with a homerun, double, walk, 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
Somers 19, West Hartford II 1. The Somers Titans beat West Hartford II behind the pitching of Kacey Oswell (3 innings, 6Ks) and Kara McGuane (2 innings, 3Ks). They both helped themselves as Oswell was 2 for 2 with two doubles and a walk and McGuane had two hits and a walk. Monica Palmer had a bases-clearing double in the Titans' 7-run first inning. Katie Trask and Liz Mashiak were also 2 for 2. For West Hartford II, Emma Karpowicz and Kristin Viberts each had a hit.
Marlborough 19, West Hartford I 16. (from 7/16) Mallory Grosso and Emily Hummel teamed up to pitch Marlborough to their first win. Alexa Gattinella Went 4 for 5 at the plate. Nicole Stankoski (3 for 4) and Kristen Montano (3 for 5) supplied to offense for West Hartford I.
Manchester Blue 6, Vernon 1.

Friday, July 30th
Vernon 16, East Hartford 13. After a strong offensive first inning by East Hartford, Vernon battled back to win 16-13. Brianna Weaver led the offense with a double and a single followed by Erin Skoly with two hits. Kelly Cocco came in to pitch two effective innings of relief. Ashley Appel did well at the plate for East Hartford, hitting two doubles and a single. Katie Coiteux was strong on defense. Relief pitcher Kerry Fitzgerald entered in the first inning to stop Vernon with the bases loaded and finished out the game.
Enfield 8, Manchester Red 3. Enfield came back from a 3-0 deficit behind the hitting of Shanna Lothian, who had two hits, and Dora Butler and Nicole Delano, who each hit a double. Pitcher Kim Collins (11Ks) allowed two hits and helped her efforts with two hits at the plate. Courtney Novak pitched a good game for Manchester Red. Danielle Leone drove in two runs.
Suffield 26, West Hartford II 7. Suffield downed West Hartford II in six innings by a 26-7 score. The offense was powered by Jen Silva, who went 4 for 6 (single, 2 doubles and a triple), and Sam Cieri who also went 4 for 6 with two doubles and two homeruns. Sam also struck out seven in 3 innings of scoreless relief.

Suffield 8, Vernon 5. (from 7/1) Suffield defeated Vernon 8-5 in a close game, well-played by both teams. Alex Wilson was outstanding for Suffield both defensively and at the plate with a double and a run scored. Sam Cieri pitched a one-hitter, striking out four. Vernon's first baseman Erin Skoly and second baseman Katelyn Morency played well defensively and Dana Carpenter pitched strong in relief.

Monday, August 2nd
Vernon 9, East Windsor 4. (from 7/13) Dana Carpenter pitched a solid complete game for Vernon, striking out fifteen. Kelly Cocco contributed to the defense with five strong innings behind the plate, plus leading the offense, driving in two runs with a double in the second inning. Erin Skoly aided the offense with good baserunning. Katie Shefrin (double) and Lindsay Lachance did well on offense for East Windsor and Chelsee Parker came in early to pitch effective relief.
Suffield 12, Ellington 6. (from 7/13 / played at Ellington) Suffield defeated Ellington 12-6 in a very well-played game by both teams. Kalleigh Peterson was the outstanding player of the game for Suffield at first base, making numerous scoops and stretching catches at the bag. Liz Breen pitched a complete game, recording seven strikeouts. Ellington played a very solid game overall and excellant defense, with Ashley Williams and Emily Savino being the team standouts.

Tuesday, August 3rd
Somers 14, Ellington 13. After taking a 5-1 lead in the first inning, Somers held off Ellington, who fought back to make the score 9-7 in Somers' favor, going into the final inning. Ellington scored six runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead and Somers came back with five in the home half to win the game. Kacey Oswell pitched the complete game victory and helped herself with a hit and two walks. Monica Palmer played well behind the plate, throwing out two baserunners in key situations. Kara McGuane and Nicole Vamvilis also played well for Somers. Kelly McPartland (3 hits) and Taylor Brown (2 hits) led the Ellington hitters. Courtney Horvath pitched well in relief.
South Windsor 20, West Hartford II 5. South Windsor defeated West Hartford II 20-5 behind the offense of Marianne Specker (3 hits,double,triple) and Rochelle Normandin and the strong pitching of Alyssa Wolejko. Leading West Hartford were Catherine Montegino (hit,run), Lauren Towers (Hit and defense) and Emma Karpowicz (triple).
Enfield 17, West Hartford I 0. Leehna Ware and Kim Collins combined to one-hit West Hartford I with 12 strikeouts in five innings. Standouts for Enfield were Courtney Cannella and Lindsey Deford on offense and Kelly Collins on defense. Catcher Allison Czapla got the lone West Hartford hit. Nicole Malenfant and Mallory Martucci played well defensively.
Suffield 18, East Windsor 3. Suffield beat visiting East Windsor 18-3 in 5 innings behind an all-star performance by Taylor Bartini. She led the offense going 4 for 4 with three singles and a homerun, scoring 4 times and collecting 6 RBIs. In addition to her offense, Taylor was excellant behind the plate, throwing out two steal attempts and picking off one runner at third base. Becky Brown played well defensively for East Windsor and Lindsay Mulnite had a good game on offense.
Marlborough 7, East Hartford 0. (forfeit)
Wednesday, August 4th
Vernon 15, Ellington 10. (from 7/28) Vernon defeated Ellington 15-10 with Kelly Cocco pitching a complete game, striking out seven. Erin Skoly led the offense with three hits and Brianna Weaver assisted with her strong bat with a double. Ellington was led by Bridget Millane's three hits and Taylor Brown's two. Courtney Horvath had a good defensive game.
West Hartford II 12, Marlborough 6. (from 7/15) Alicia Lambert pitched a good game and got the win for West Hartford II. Lauren Towers played well behind the plate and Emma Karpowicz scored four runs. Emily Hummel and Mallory Grosso pitched well for Marlborough. Casey Schaus had a good game both on offense and in the field.
Manchester Blue 8, Somers 0. (from 7/28) Manchester Blue traveled to Somers and came home with an 8-0 win. Lindsey Johnson, Melanie Berman and Marisa Conyers had two hits apiece and Jayne Talaga doubled to lead the Blue offense. Pitching a complete game, Katie Viara gave up only one hit and struck out fourteen. Nicole Sapienze led the Manchester defense with a strong game at second base. Somers pitcher Kacey Oswell got the team's only hit. Monica Palmer played well behind the plate along with JoJo Meunier playing a strong defensive game.
Thursday, August 5th
East Windsor 19, Marlborough 3. Despite a valiant effort by visiting Marlborough, East Windsor prevailed in their season finale. Lindsay Lachance led the offense with three hits. Maria Vromans also did well at the plate. Heather St.Amour, Missy Hunt and Chelsee Parker all pitched effectively.Emily Hummel pitched well for Marlborough. Catcher Michelle Bernard and Chrissy Swider, at first base, had good defensive games.
East Hartford 6, Manchester Red 5. East Hartford came from behind to score a 6-5 win over Manchester Red. The clutch relief pitching of Lisa Donato and a timely hit by Donato after a couple of walks drove in the go-ahead runs. Manchester came back to tie the game in the top of the seventh only to have East Hartford score the winning run as twilight descended. Manchester was led by the pitching and hitting of Courtney Novak. Red also had good pitching performances from Danielle Leone and Anna Piggott. For East Hartford, in addition to Donato's solid play, a heads-up play by left fielder Lynne Foran backing up the dugout side of third base prevented a homerun by Courtney Novak with Amy Quattropani making a good tag from the throw.
Somers 8, Vernon 3. Somers ended their regular season with an 8-3 win behind an 11-strikeout complete game by Kacey Oswell. Kara McGuane had two hits and played well defensively along with JoJo Meunier. Jill Turgeon and Amy Dubiel both had good games for Somers. Erin Skoly had two hits for Vernon, including a triple. Dana Carpenter also had two hits and Kelly Cocco pitched well in relief.
Ellington 11, West Hartford I 2. Lindsey Gondek had 13 strikeouts and gave up only one hit in her first game back from an arm injury. She also had a hit and scored twice. Kelly McPartland and Courtney Horvath each chipped in with a hit, an RBI and a run scored. Bridget Millane scored twice and had three stolen bases. Jen Matthews had West Hartford's only hit. Angie Ruiz and Allison Czapla both did well in the field.
Manchester Blue 7, Suffield 2. (from 7/16) Manchester Blue completed their undefeated season with a 7-2 win over Suffield. Marisa Conyers, Nicole Sapienza, Katie Viara and Amy Howroyd each hit doubles for Blue. Defensive stars for Suffield were Jen Thresher and Taylor Bartini. Jen Silva tripled for Suffield.
