Ellington 6, Coventry 4. Ellington beat Coventry in a close game, with Coventry jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Ellington settled down and worked their way back into the game, capping off with a 3-run seventh inning. The Coventry defense was led by the pitching of Emma Polinski, with catcher Lindsay LaChance holding the Ellington runners in check. Amy Dillon led the hitters with a double. The winning pitcher for Ellongton was Jocelyn Close with 7Ks, no walks and 6 defensive assists. She also went 3 for 3 at the plate. Kerry Sawamura and Jen Spartz had two hits each. The Ellington defensive duo of Jen and Christine Spartz sealed the victory with a double play.
South Windsor 9, Somers 2. South Windsor opened their season with at 9-2 victory over Somers. Emily Armstrong had a 10 strikeout, no walk complete game pitching performance and also helped her cause with two hits. Ashley Tremonte chipped in with two hits and Katie Miller had two RBIs. JoJo Meunier pitched a complete game for Somers. Shelby Ladue powered the offense with a homerun and a single.
Enfield 12, Canton 8. Enfield opened with a 12-8 win over Canton after a rough first inning. Canton scored seven runs in the first and then managed only one more the rest of the game. The Enfield Fireballs' solid defense kicked in, with Britni Siana and Amanda Meunier making key plays. Meunier also doubled and scored. Christine Scanlon was key at the plate, scoring twice for the Fireballs. For Canton, Nicole Batan scored and played solid defense. Jessie Schroeder played outstanding defense behind the plate. Pitchers Sarah Sapia and Sarah Benedetti combined for seven strikeouts.
Glastonbury 6, Granby 2. Glastonbury won 6-2 behind a complete game victory from pitcher Amanda Longley. She finished with nine strikeouts while giving up only two hits. She also added a triple and scored a run on offense. Granby was led by Katie Kelleher, who pitched four innings, striking out seven.
Suffield 8, West Hartford I 4. Suffield's Angie Moskwa shone in her first outing of the season, pitching a complete game and yielding only 4 runs against a tough and talented West Hartford I team. Colleen Moroney scored two runs and Maggie Reeves had an RBI and also scored a run. West Hartford's Mallory Martucci had two hits and scored three runs and Laura Mainelli pitched four strong innings.
Manchester 15, Hebron 0. Manchester opened their season with a decisive win over a short-handed Hebron team. Kelly Gentilcore and Trixie Umali combined on a no-hitter through four innings, striking out eight. Contributing to the offense were Lindsay Wilenski and Taylor Sisson. For Hebron, Alicia Wojcik had a great game behind the plate and Shannon Salinger played a solid defense.
Windsor 17, West Hartford II 2. Windsor opened with a 17-2 win over West Hartford I as pitchers Nina Varney, Melissa Nolan, Lauren Backhaus and Kelly O'Brien combined to allow just one hit and struck out nine. Melissa Nolan also had a triple, double and 5 runs scored to lead Windsor. Emma Dulz and Cailey Cagney played solid defense for Windsor. Katie Kuzoia pitched well and Molly Gustafson chipped in with a hit and scored a run for West Hartford.
Windsor 15, Canton 13. Windsor downed Canton as Melissa Nolan and Nina Varney combined for 16 strikeouts for the win. Melissa Nolan's bases-clearing triple was the key hit of the game. Allison Mendola and Erin McVeigh made some excellant defensive plays for Windsor. Olivia Bonini, Melissa Parente and Melissa Cahill played solid defense for Canton.
Suffield 4, Granby 2. Lauren Mercik kept Granby's powerful lineup in check by changing speeds with good accuracy, scattering only four hits over 6 innings. Angela Moskwa pitched a scoreless inning, and also hit a triple. Erin Brault walked twice and scored a run. For Granby, Bethany Grupp pitched 7 fine innings, Nadine Foster hit a triple and Christy Cooper smashed a double.
Enfield 14, Glastonbury 1. The Enfield Fireballs defeated Glastonbury 14-1 behind the pitching of Lindsey DeFord. Courtney Cannella led the offense, going 4 for 4, and Natalie Kyparadis had 3 hits and scored 3 runs. For Glastonbury, Lindsey Rader singled and scored the lone run and Michelle Nogas doubled.
Ellington 14, Vernon 13 (9 innings). A 9-inning battle finished with Ellington over Vernon 14-13. Ellington came out strong and Vernon came back with clutch hits and constant baserunning pressure. Vernon's Kelly Falkowski had two singles and two doubles, Kelly Robichaud had two hits and catcher Kristin Messier kept Ellington runners at bay. Ellington pitcher Morgan McPartland struck out eleven, and helped her cause with a triple on offense. Taylor Brown had two monster doubles, the last one being the game-winner.
Coventry 8, South Windsor 4. Coventry jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning when Amy Dillon cleared the bases with a triple and then scored on Rebecca Loftis' single. South Windsor tied the score in the second when Jenna Borrman blasted a triple to left field and scored on an Erin O'Brien hit. Coventry added three runs in the 3rd behind singles from Susan Blake, Amy Dillon and Victoria Rametta. Caitlin Rauchle pitched a complete game and scored an insurance run in the top of the 7th to give Coventry its first NCGSL victory.
West Hartford I 19, West Hartford II 4. Valerie Beyer and Laura Mainelli combined to pitch a 3-hitter. Lily Hannigan, Mallory Martucci and Kelsey Corrigan each had two hits and scored twice. Kelsey also had four stolen bases, including a steal of home. Kim Orzech had a hit and two walks for West Hartford II. Abby Meyers and Molly Gustafson also had hits.
Somers at Hebron (RHAM) - postponed to a later date.
Enfield 9, Granby 6. The Enfield Fireballs were led by the relief pitching of Courtney Cannella with 9 strikeouts in five innings. She also helped her cause with 2 hits and an RBI. Lindsey DeFord scored two runs and Shawna Lothian (right) was solid on defense. Pitching for Granby, Katie Kelleher struck out four in 3 innings. Desi Piette had three singles to lead the hitters.
Suffield 19, West Hartford II 4. Faced with the absense of its top three pitchers, Suffield's Julie Muscarella and Kylie Gifford were pressed into service. Julie pitched four innings, yielding only four runs, and Kylie pitched two scoreless innings. Julie also went 4 for 4 with a walk, scoring three runs, and Kylie went 3 for 4 with a walk, scoring two runs.
Canton 18, Glastonbury 16. Canton outslugged Glastonbury 18-16 to get their first win. Elise Minichiello scored two runs and also made a great catch to start the first inning. Sarah Benedetti tripled and had an RBI. Cameron Sheldon and Elanna Sanger each scored three runs. Nicole Batan and Deanna DeSanti played solid defense, making several outs together. Glastonbury's Haley Howard hit a double and Hayley Hoge and Michelle Nogas each scored twice.
West Hartford I 11, Windsor 5. Laura Mainelli pitched four strong innings to pick up the win, with three hitless relief innings by Carrie Corrigan. Maureen Martucci paced the offense with two triples and a single. Valerie Beyer, Mallory Martucci and Chelsie Velez each added a double. Lily Hannigan had a terrific defensive game. Kelly O'Brien pitched well for a Windsor team that played tough except for one shaky inning. Melinda Peck had a great defensive game, as did Adrienne Edwards behind the plate.
Manchester 7, Somers 1. Manchester earned their second victory of the season, defeating a scrappy Somers team. Allie Vitkus got the win, allowing only one run, and she also went 2 for 3 at the plate and scored a run. Chipping in on the offense were Gabrielle Dube (1 single, 1 run) and Kelly Gentilcore (1 triple, 2 runs). JoJo Meunier went the distance on the mound for Somers, striking out eight Manchester batters. Both teams played excellant defensive games in the field.
Vernon 16, South Windsor 3. Vernon defeated South Windsor 16-3 as Erin Selavka pitched a complete game, scattering five hits, striking out four and walking two. She also chipped in 3 of Vernon's 12 hits. Jill Eitelman had three hits for Vernon as well. Defensively, Jamie Vallarelli and Brianna Levick stood out for Vernon. Ariel Hovland pitched well for South Windsor. She managed to hold the Vernon team to 4 runs through 4 innings. Tori Thompson (base hit, run scored) and Anna Cerra (triple, run scored) were the offensive standouts for South Windsor and they were helped by the defense of Jamie Barile.
Hebron 6, Ellington 5. Hebron got its first win of the season, 6-5, surviving a late Ellington rally sparked by Kerry Sawamura's sixth inning leadoff triple. Emily Hummel went the distance in the circle for Hebron to earn the victory, while her Ellington counterpart, Morgan McPartland, seemed to get stronger as the game wore on. Hebron's young defense showed great progress. Alicia Wojcik was outstanding in only her second start behind the plate and newcomer Loren Madore ended Ellington's fifth inning threat by snagging a line drive with runners in scoring position.
Vernon 17, Somers 4. Vernon started off with a shaky first inning but beat visiting Somers 17-4. A hit, a walk and two errors spotted Somers an early 3-run lead. Vernon managed a run in the bottom of the first and then broke the game open with 6 in the second. Jill Eitelman started and pitched four strong innings, giving up five hits, three walks and striking out four. She helped her own cause, going 3 for 3 with a double. Erin Selavka threw three innings in relief, surrendering a hit and a walk while striking out five. She also had 3 hits, including two doubles. Kelly Falkowski also had a single and a double for the Vernon offense. JoJo Meunier oitched five innings for Somers, recording 11 strikeouts. Taylor Geas tripled in the 5th inning, knocking in Somers' final run.
Manchester 4, Ellington 2. A sixth inning rally, led by Michelle Graboski and Jordan Purcell-Riess, helped Manchester earn their third win of the season. Manchester's pitchers were strong in the circle, combining for 11 strikeouts and only allowing five hits. Kacie Tourville went 1 for 1 with a walk and a run scored, and Gabby Dube went 2 for 3 with a single and a double. Jocelyn Close pitched well for Ellington, throwing a complete game. Kerry Sawamura and Alyssa Deland scored the runs for Ellington.
Suffield 23, Canton 10. This game was much closer than the final score indicated, as Canton played a fine defensive game, keeping the score 11-10 until the bottom of the 6th inning. Angela Moskwa pitched 6 innings and went 5 for 5 at the plate. Lauren Mercik pitched a scoreless 7th, and went 2 for 4 on offense. Rachel Adelsberger had a pair of hits. Outstanding players for Canton were Jessica Schroeder, Adrianne Kunkel and Olivia Bonini.
Windsor 13, Granby 2. Windsor obtained a good pitching effort from Nina Varney, who scattered five hits and five strikeouts along with some great defensive plays by infielders Kelly O'Brien, Kaelyn Moore, Erin McVeigh, Amanda Self and Kailey Cagney. Windsor also had solid offensive outputs from Shauna Greene (2 hits/triple) and Adrienne Edwards (3 hits/double). Granby was led by Addie Koehler, who had two RBIs with a solid hit in the sixth inning.
Enfield 15, West Hartford II 0. Enfield downed West Hartford II 15-0 as Lindsey DeFord pitched very well to earn the win. Katie Krogmann played a good game on defense, picking a runner off first base. Ashley Poggie had a good night both at the plate and in the field. Morgan Caswell added three hits for the Fireballs. Crystal Leduc pitched two strong innings for West Hartford, allowing just one run.
South Windsor 7, Hebron 0 (forfeit).
Granby 11, West Hartford I 9. Granby picked up their first win of the season by defeating a tough West Hartford I team 11-9. Bethany Grupp pitched 6 innings and Nadine Foster came in with the bases loaded in the 7th to save the game. Hanna Lindeyer led the offense with a couple of singles and Chloe Frechette had a big double in the 6th which drove in the tieing runs. Jenna Allen and Catherine Montagino each had two hits to lead the West hartford offense.
Coventry 22, Hebron 7. All 13 Coventry players made significant contributions in the 22-7 win over a shorthanded Hebron team. Lindsay LaChance led the hitters with two triples and a single. Rebecca Loftis also tripled. Emma Polinski and Caitlin Rauchle combined to pitch three innings of scoreless ball. Jen Schain and Alicia Wojcik both singled for Hebron.
Canton 11, West Hartford II 8. Canton downed host West Hartford II bt a score of 11-8. Frances Klimczak earned the win, striking out four. Catchers Jessie Schroeder and Olivia Bonini did a great job behind the plate. Melissa Parente made several putouts at shortstop and third base. Jessie Schroeder was 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored. Elise Minichiello had two hits and two runs scored. Cameron Sheldon was 2 for 3 with a triple and scored twice and Sarah Sapia also tripled and scored. Melissa Parente, Adrianne Kunkel, Olivia Bonini and Christina Cardwell all scored runs. Melissa Parente and Cameron Sheldon each drove in three runs and Mara Heyne picked up her first RBI of the season. Sarah Sapia made the final out of the game, catching a pop foul at first base. Toni Davis pitched an excellant game for West Hartford and made several strong defensive plays. Kim Orzech reached base four times, had 2 RBIs and a run scored.

Windsor 13, Suffield 4. Windsor won over previously unbeaten Suffield 13-4. Lauren Backhaus pitched well in relief, striking out six over 4 innings. Annie Orme and Shauna Greene eached scored three runs. Allison Mendola and Emma Dulz were strong defensively. Suffield was led by the fine pitching of Lauren Mercik and Meghan Maliga. Sarah Dallaire went 2 for 3 to lead the offense.
Enfield 8, West Hartford I 7. The Enfield Fireballs rallied for thee runs in the top of the seventh and then hung on to edge West Hartford I by a score of 8-7. Lindsey DeFord drove in the tieing and lead runs with a two-out single. Katie Krogmann played well defensively and singled before DeFord to score the go ahead run. Amanda Meunier also played well defensively, making several putouts in centerfield. West Hartford played a strong all-around game with a good offensive and defensive effort in support of strarting pitcher Courtney Daley. Chelsie Velez also had an outstanding game for West with two hits and two runs batted in.
Glastonbury 12, West Hartford II 2. Nicole Deskus pitched a complete game to get the win and helped her cause with two hits. Hayley Howard went 3 for 4 with two triples and three runs scored. Amanda Longley went 3 for 4 with three doubles and two runs scored. Bridget Kelleher and Crystal Leduc both went 2 for 3 to pace West Hartford II.
Canton 6, Granby 4 (8 innings). Canton edged Granby 6-4 in 8 innings, the last inning using the international tie breaker. Frances Klimczak (4Ks) started and then returned to pitch the last four innings with Sara Benedetti (2Ks) spelling her in the 3rd and 4th innings. The Canton offense was led by Frances Klimczak (2-3,2 runs), Melissa Cahill (3-3,2B,2 runs) and Jessie Schroeder (2-3,run). With the scored tied 3-3 entering the 8th inning, Nicole Batan lead off with a single and scored the go-ahead run. Two other scores followed to put Canton ahead 6-3. Defensively, Melissa Parente made several outs at 3rd base and shortstop Nicole Batan and catcher Jessie Schroeder made a nice play in the 6th inning to get the lead runner a home. Granby's Chrissy Cooper pitched a complete game, striking out twelve. Stacey Brunelle made a double play and hit a double. Kelsey Walsh played solid defense.

West Hartford I 7, Glastonbury 6. West Hartford I held off a late rally by Glastonbury to pick up the win. Valerie Beyer went the distance, allowing only five hits to get the victory. Val also helped her cause with a triple and a single. Miranda Mantello and Chelsie Velez added two hits each while Kelsey Corrigan and Mallory Martucci made several game-saving defensive plays. Amanda Longley pitched the entire game for Glastonbury and also had a double and a single at the plate. Lindsey Rader was outstanding behind the plate, keeping WH baserunners in check all night.
Manchester 15, South Windsor 11. Manchester won their fourth game of the season against a hard-hitting South Windsor team by a score of 15-11. Kelly Gentilcore threw a complete 7-inning game and went 2 for 3 at the plate. The Manchester offense was led by Chrissy Wakefield and Michelle Graboski, who both went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Playing well defensively were Heather Ferranti at second base and Sarah Bonino in left field. The South Windsor offensive attack was led by Anna Cerra and Jenna Borrmann, who each had a single, double and two runs scored. Sara Fulton reached base three times, scoring a run. Pitching for South Windsor were Erin O'Brien (1-3,run,HBP) and Emily Armstrong (1-3,2BB,3 runs).
Hebron 8, Somers 2. On a perfect night for softball, Hebron took its second victory of the season from host Somers, 8-2. Offensively, Hebron played small ball much of the night, making the most of well-executed bunts and alert base running. Emily Hummel allowed no earned runs and struck out twelve enroute to her first no-hitter of the season. Alicia Wojcik went the distance behind the plate, and at the plate she bunted for two hits and recored a RBI sac bunt. Chrissy Swider used aggressive baserunning to spark Hebron's offense. JoJo Meunier pitched a complete game for Somers and defended her position very well all game long.

Canton 16, West Hartford I 9. Canton beat visiting West Hartford 16-9 as Melissa Cahill went 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored and five stolen bases. Fran Klimczak had two hits, an RBI and 2 runs scored. Jessie Schroeder went 2 for 3 with two runs and five steals. Elanna Sanger and Deanna DeSanti were both 3 for 3 with two scores. West Hartford's offense was led by Lily Hannigan (3-4,2R), Catherine Montagino (4-4,2R) and Chelsie Velez (2-4,1R).
Granby 8, West Hartford II 1. Granby beat West Hartford II by a score of 8-1 in a lightning-shortened game, using a total team effort of solid pitching and a 10-hit offense. Katie Kelleher struck out six in 4 innings, giving up just one hit and a walk. Sara Hammick and Stacey Brunelle had two hits and an RBI each. West Hartford was led by Nadia Khaimova, who had a triple and a shoetop catch in left field.
Glastonbury 14, Windsor 6. The Glastonbury Heat downed Windsor as Amanda Longley earned the complete game win, scattering seven hits and striking out five. Katie Uricchio had a double, 2 RBIs and two runs scored and catcher Lindsey Rader had a double, an RBI, two runs scored and also threw out a attempted basestealer. Kaelyn Moore pitched the first 4 innings for Windsor, striking out four. She also had a hit at the plate. Kelly O'Brien went 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs and two runs scored.
Enfield 9, Suffield 9 (tie)(9 innings). Enfield and Suffield tied after nine innings at 9-9 in a game pitched by Lindsey DeFord (5Ks) of Enfield and Lauren Mercik (8Ks) of Suffield. Amanda Meunier had three hits and scored twice for Enfield while Morgan Caswell and Ashley Poggie each had two. Poggie started two Fireball comeback rallies with doubles. For Suffield, Angela Moskwa came up with big hits throughout the game with two going to the outfield fence. Samantha Guzzi sparked Suffield both offensively and in the field.
Vernon 17, Somers 1. Vernon mercied a shorthanded Somers team by a score of 17-1, sending 14 batters to the plate in the first inning and scoring 10 runs. Brittani White hit a two-run triple in the 2nd inning and Erin Selavke added a two-run double in the 3rd inning. Kelly Robichaud made her U-14 debut behind the plate and handled the catching duties like a veteran. Brianna Levick demonstrated her versatility by playing well at shortstop, first base and right field.
South Windsor 9, Coventry 8 (8 innings). South Windsor came out on top in an extra inning game in Coventry that featured timely hitting, complete game pitching performances and fine defense by both clubs. Emily Armstrong (upper right), who had 11 stikeouts, helped her own cause by driving in two runs with a double to right center in the 1st inning. Susan Morton capped a 3-run second inning with a run-scoring scarifice, helping South jump out to a 6-1 lead after four innings. Coventry was not held back by the heat or the score and rallied for 5 runs in the 4th inning, highlighted by the hitting of Lindsay LaChance, Amy Dillon, Anna Green and Brittany Pietro. Caitlin Rauchle (lower right) settled down and pitched shutout ball for three innings. South Windsor had a fine defensive performance by catcher Tori Thomson, who shut down the Coventry running attack. South came up with two runs in the top of the 8th inning, led by a Chelsea Hebert leadoff single and a run-scoring sacrifice by Stephanie Rahm.
Ellington 11, Manchester 7. Ellington downed Manchester 11-7 at their defense cooled a 12-hit Manchester attack in support of winning pitcher Jocelyn Close (5K,5BB). Ashleigh Williams, Liz Miller, Kailyn Lundeberg and Marin Cleary provided stiff defense. Emily Fillion, Jocelyn Close, Taylor Brown and Ashleigh Williams scored two runs each. Manchester's Sara McCann and Allie Vitkus both went 3 for 3 to lead the offense. Vitkus also pitched well and Kacie Tourville played outstanding defense.
Vernon 7, Hebron 1. (from 7/13) Erin Selavka pitched a complete game, surrendering just 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 12, as Vernon defeated Hebron 7-1. Jamie Vallerelli had three hits, including a triple, and Brianna Levick and Kristin Messier both chipped in with two hits each for Vernon. Jill Eitelman made an acrobatic catch and doubled a runner off second base to end the game. Emily Hummel pitched well for Hebron, keeping the Vernon offense off balance, striking out nine and giving up only one walk.
Enfield 11, Canton 3. Enfield defeated Canton 11-3. Lindsey DeFord pitched a one-hitter and helped herself with three hits on offense. Britni Siana played well defensively and went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and 4 RBIs. Katie Krogmann also chipped in with two hits. For Canton, Nicole Batan played a strong game at shortstop. Adrianne Kunkel played well behind the plate and Jess Schroeder doubled for Canton's lone hit.
Granby 11, Glastonbury 7. Granby held off a surging Glastonbury team 11-7. Bethany Grupp started and retired 10 of the first 13 batters before Katie Uricchio and Haley Howard fired up the Glastonbury offense. Each had two hits to lead a ferocious comeback. Desi Piette and Sara Hammick each went 3-4 for Granby, with Desi contributing 2 RBIs and Sara 4 RBIs on three doubles. Second baseman Leslie Perkins led the Granby defense, which has made only one error in the past two games.
Windsor 15, West Hartford II 11. Windsor was paced by the pitching of Melissa Nolan (6Ks in 2 innings) and Kaelyn Moore. The offensive production was provided by Annie Orme (2 doubles), Lauren Backhaus and Erin McVeigh, who each scored two runs. West Hartford made an excellant comeback, scoring 6 runs in the 6th inning, including a grandslam by Molly Gustafson. Crystal Leduc went 3 for 4 and Toni Davis pitched the entire game for West Hartford.
Manchester 14, Coventry 6. Manchester got back on the winning track with a victory over a feisty Coventry team. Allie Vitkus pitched well for three innings, and played outstanding defense at first with 5 putouts.Trixie Umali pitched two innings of 1-2-3 relief and had a hit, two runs and an RBI. Sarah Bonino also broke out the bat with two hits and two RBIs. Kira Shaikh played excellant defense in centerfield, and had a hit and two runs scored. Coventry's batters were hitting the ball hard, and were led by catcher Lindsay LaChance, with two hits and a run, and Amy Dillon, who had a hit and two runs scored.
Ellington 14, Somers 3. Ellington visited Somers and came home with a 14-3 win. The short-handed Somers team held Ellington for the first few innings, but the Ellington bats woke up in the third inning and Somers returned the favor. The Ellington offense of Grace Durgan (2 doubles), Taylor Brown (3-4,3B) and Sam Harvey ( 2 hits) stretched out the lead for the win. Somers pitcher Samantha Urbon (8Ks,2BB) and Shelby LaDue's offense (2-2,2BB) kept Somers in the game. Ellington winning pitcher Courtney Carver threw strikes and the defense of Grace Durgan, Liz Miller, Marin Cleary and Emily Fillion took care of the rest.
Vernon 9, Hebron 2. Erin Selavka went the distance for Vernon, giving up 3 hits and 5 walks, striking out five. Aimee Yost led the offensive effort for Vernon with a double. Hilary Moody and Ashley Barselau provided solid defense. Emily Hummel pitched very well for Hebron, surrendering five hits and 3 walks, striking out seven. Lea Underwood played well both in the field and at the plate. Liz Rey and Lauren Madore were defensive standouts for Hebron.
Suffield 13, West Hartford I 9. Angela Moskwa pitched Suffield to a rain-shortened victory over West Hartford I. She helped her cause by going 2 for 3 at the plate and scoring two runs. Erin Brault went 1 for 1 with a walk, also scoring two runs. Katie Zien went 1 for 2 and scored once. Maureen Martucci led West Hartford's hitters, going 4 for 4 and scoring all four times. Jenna Allen was 1 for 4, scoring once.
Windsor 18, Canton 5. Windsor received a strong (10Ks) combined pitching effort from Nina Varney and Melissa Nolan along with the defensive efforts of catcher Adrienne Edwards, who made an unassisted double play. Windsor received lots of offensive production, including triples by Allison Mendola and Melissa Nolan. Leadoff batters Erin McVeigh and Kelly O'Brien each scored three runs. Canton was paced by Sarah Sapia, who had a triple and drove in a run. Nicole Batan and Deanna DeSanti turned in sparkling defensive performances at shortstop and third base, recording ten assists.
Granby 16, Suffield 1. Granby continued their winning ways against a depleted Suffield team. Katie Kelleher threw a one-hitter, facing only 18 batters in 5 innings. Cheisst Cooper led the Granby offense with two hits and Katie helped her own cause by driving in two runs. Granby continued to improve their defense, again committing only one error for the second straight game. Sarah Dallaire had the lone hit and Kylie Gifford played well for Suffield.

Suffield 9, Glastonbury 7. (from 7/11) Angela Moskwa again shone for Suffield, pitching a complete game win and going 3 for 3 at the plate, scoring three runs. Kylie Gifford was 2 for 3, scoring twice, and Samantha Guzzi had a hit and scored twice. Jackie Barnicle led Glastonbury with two hits and three stolen bases. Lindsey Rader had two hits, an RBI and a run scored.
Vernon 7, Coventry 6. (from 7/14) Vernon hung on to beat a tenacious Coventry team 7-6. Jamie Vallarelli started for Vernon and gave up 4 hits, walked one and struck out two. Erin Selavka relieved in the 5th inning, surrendering 2 hits, 2 walks and struck out four. Aimee Yost reached base on an error and a base hit, scoring twice. Kelly Falkowski singled twice, both on bunts. Ashley Barselau played solid defense for Vernon on a night when they made five errors. Josie LoRicco started for Coventry, giving up two hits and walking two. She gave way to Emma Polinski in the 4th inning, who gave up 3 hits, struck out two and issued 3 walks. Alexa Burrows singled and scored on an RBI-single by Allison Kennedy for Coventry's final run in the top of the 6th inning.
Enfield 14, Granby 5. Enfield beat Granby 14-5 as Lindsey DeFord led the way with two hits and a solid pitching performance. Britni Siana contributed with three hits and some good defense. Also shining on defense was Shawna Lothian, converting several difficult chances to outs. Granby's defense was led by Desi Piette with web gems in both the infield and outfield. Second baseman Chloe Frechette made an outstanding play on a ground ball, turning it into a 4-5 double play and ending an Enfield threat. Jessie Bastiaanse led the Granby offense with a pair of hits.
Suffield 10, West Hartford II 6. Suffield's Samantha Guzzi pitched her first game at the U-14 level, allowing no runs over 3 innings and striking out two. She also went 3-3 with a HBP, scoring 3 times. Other players of note for Suffield were starting pitcher Kylie Gifford and Julie Muscarella, who had her second triple in as many games. Standouts for West Hartford were Rachel McGrath with three hits, Kristen Kelly, who made an unassisted double play, and Katie Kuzoian, who pitched 3 innings, striking out three.
Glastonbury 12, Canton 11. Glastonbury outlasted Canton 12-11 in a game in which Canton mounted a hard-fought comeback to pull within one run in the last inning. Canton was led by Sarah Benedetti and Elise Minichiello, both scoring two runs, and Frannie Klimczak, who had two hits and two runs scored. Glastonbury's offense was led by Christine Dalton's hot bat with a solid 3-3 night with 4 RBIs. Katie Uricchio had the game-winning RBI to go along with 2 hits and scoring twice. Hayley Howard added a double and Jessie Smith provided a great defensive play in the outfield by snagging a tough line drive.
Windsor 8, West Hartford I 7. Windsor had all they could handle in this tight game, which ended with West Hartford leaving runners on second and third. Windsor pitchers Lauren Backhaus and Melissa Nolan combined to record 14 strikeouts. The Windsor offense was sparked by Annie Orme, who went 3-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. West Hartford received an excellant pitching performance from Laura Mainelli before she was injured and replaced by Valerie Beyer, who also pitched superbly. Both pitchers combined to record ten strikeouts. Carrie Corrigan sparked the West Hartford offense by scoring two runs.
Vernon 8, Manchester 4. Vernon put up five runs in the 1st inning and then held off a tough Manchester lineup to post an 8-4 win in Vernon. Erin Selavka went the distance for Vernon, throwing a 3-hitter and striking out eight. She walked two batters in the game, but they were the leadoff batters in the 4th inning which led to a 4-run rally for Manchester. Those were all the runs for Manchester as Vernon settled down and faced the minimum the rest of the way. Aimee Yost went 3-3 with a triple to lead off the home 1st inning. Kelly Falkowski continued her streak of games with a bunt base hit, knocking in Yost from third. Brianna Levick played solidly at shortstop and Kelly Robichaud was outstanding behind the plate for Vernon. Kelly Gentilcore went the distance for Manchester, striking out four and allowing 8 hits and 3 walks. Sarah Bonino doubled and provide excellant defense. Allie Vitkus was outstanding at first base and chipped in a base hit.
South Windsor 6, Ellington 4. Kristina Wanat had a complete game, 7-strikeout performance in a close battle with Ellington. Erin O'Brien (2 runs) led off the game with a walk and Tori Thomson got South started with a rope double, driving in the first run. Ellington played superb defense with catches in the outfield by Sam Harvey and Haley Brown to squelch any further damage. Morgan McPartland pitched well - a complete game with 6 strikeouts. Ellington's Grace Durgan led off the 6th with a solid base hit and later scored on Jen Spartz' single to make it 5-4. Ashley Tremonte's bunt single led to an insurance run for South in the 7th. Ellington threatened in the home half of the 7th with two runners on and one out, but Kristina Wanat was able to induce two popups for the final outs.

West Hartford I 16, West Hartford II 9. (completion of game begun on 7/21) In the conclusion of a game suspened by rain, Valerie Beyer picked up the win for West Hartford I with three innings of no-hit pitching. Carrie Corrigan pitched well in relief despite some shaky defense. Chelsie Velez led the hitting with a double and two singles. Mallory Martucci also had a double and a single. For West Hartford II, Antoinette Davis pitched well and reached base three times. Rachel McGrath also reached safely three times and scored two runs. Molly Gustafson had a good game behind the plate.
Enfield 17, West Hartford II 0. Enfield defeated West Hartford II 17-0 in 5 innings behind the pitching of Morgan Caswell. She also contributed two hits and an RBI. Ali Feldman and Katie Krogmann added two hits and two RBIs each. For West Hartford II, Bridget Kelleher was flawless at shortstop with several outstanding plays. Alex Merked added a sparkling play in left field with a running catch and Kahlia Brentham-Riddick took away sure extra bases with a running catch in the gap off the bat of Amanda Meunier.
Windsor 16, Granby 1. Windsor was led by the pitching of Nina Varney, who recorded a 3-hit, eight strikeout performance and also scored three runs. Kailey Cagney led the Windsor offense with a triple and three runs scored. Lauren Backhaus also scored three times. Allion Mendola had two solid hits and Kailyn Moore placed two excellant bunts. Granby was paced by Chloe Frechette and Katelyn Sayles who both had nice hits. Chrissy Cooper also played well for Granby.
West Hartford I 5, Glastonbury 4. Laura Mainelli pitched a complete game (6 hits,6Ks,2BBs) to get the win over a tough Glastonbury team. Zoe Mendal had a hit and scored two runs for WH. Jenna Allen also had a hit and reached base twice. Maureen Martucci made a game-saving play in the 6th inning when she threw a strike to 3rd base on a relay from centerfielder Carrie Corrigan that nailed a runner trying to stretch a double into a triple. Haley Hoge pitched a terrific game for Glastonbury, allowing only one hit over five innings. Amanda Bogue had two hits and Amanda Longley added a long double and pitched a scoreless 6th inning.
Vernon 9, Ellington 5. Vernon held off a solid Ellington team by a score of 9-5. Jill Eitelman started for Vernon, going 5 innings. She gave up 7 hits, walked four and struck out one. Erin Selavka pitched the last two innings, allowing no hits, 3 walks and striking out one. Kelly Falkowski had two base hits for Vernon and continued her streak of games with a bunt single. Jamie Vallarelli, Kelly Robichaud, Brittani White and Aimee Yost also had hits for Vernon. Jen Spartz led the offensive attack for Ellington with two hits and a run scored. Alyssa Deland played solid defense and chipped in with a double in the 1st inning, scoring Ellington's first run. Taylor Brown had two hits including a double during a 4-run outburst in the 5th inning. Morgan McPartland pitched well in relief, giving up no hits and striking out three in three innings.
Somers 10, Coventry 7. Samantha Urbon pitched a complete game for Somers, striking out seven. Camille Thomas had two hits and two runs scored and played strong defense at shortstop, Shelby Ladue had two hits and also scored two runs. Lindsey LaChance had a strong game for Coventry behind the plate and also had two hits. Josie LoRicco pitched well in relief and Kelsey Brandon scored a pair of runs.
Manchester 6, South Windsor 5. Manchester edged South Windsor in a well-played game by both teams. Trixie Umali got the start for Manchester, holding South Windsor to 3 runs in four innings. Allie Vitkus pitched well in relief, and helped the offense with a single, double and 3 RBI. Michelle Graboski had two hits and scored two runs, and Kira Shaikh contributed two hits. For South Windsor, Tori Thomson was solid behind the plate. South's offensive effort was led by Stephanie Rahm, with a double and a run, and Katie Miller, who had a hit and a stolen bse.
Suffield 16, Canton 8. Suffield's Angie Moskwa pitched 6 strong innings, striking out 12 Canton batters. She also went 2-3 at the plate, scoring three runs. Alyssa Wagner was 3-4, scoring once. Taryn Scozzari caught 7 innings in the heat and went 2-4 on offense. Cameron Sheldon went 2 -3, Melissa Parente scored twice and pitcher Frannie Klimczak played well for Canton.

Manchester 4, Coventry 3. (from 7/13) A short-handed Manchester team squeeked out a victory over Coventry. Kelly Gentilcore pitched well through five innings, allowing 3 hits and a run, and scored a run in the first inning. Sarah Bonino had a double, and played well at second base. Trixie Umali pitched two innings in relief and added to the offense with two hits and a run. Heather Ferranti was solid behind the plate through seven. Kira Shaikh was outstanding in centerfield with two great putouts, and sparked a 3-run Manchester rally in the sixth. Allie Vitkus was involved in 11 defensive plays at first base, and Lindsay Wilenski scored the go-ahead run for Manchester. For Coventry, Caitlin Rauchle went the distance on the mound, fielded her position very well and singled. Susan Blake also had a single and scored a run. Allison Kennedy and Kelsey Brandon caused late-inning baserunning havoc in the 7th, scoring a run apiece, keeping Coventry in the game until the last out.
Granby 5, West Hartford I 4. Granby and West Hartford I played another exciting game with Granby coming out on top 5-4. Nadine Foster pitched a complete game, scattering five hits and issuing no walks. Chrissy Cooper and Leslie Perkins played outstanding defense up the middle, making several plays in the late innings on hars-hit balls. Desi Piette led Granby with two hits. Maureen Martucci led the West Hartford I attack with 2 hits and 2 runs scored. Jenna Allen had a nice triple. Laura Mainelli pitched well in relief for West Hartford I. Jessie Bastiaanse deserves special credit as Granby's 3rd option catcher, catching the whole game in the oppressive heat.
Canton 21, West Hartford II 2. Canton beat West Hartford II 21-2 after 5 innings. Frannie Klimczak pitched all five innings and struck out two. Melissa Parente was 3-3, with a double and 3 runs scored. Melissa Cahill was 2-3 and scored twice, Jessie Schroeder was 3-3 with a triple and 3 runs scored. Deanna DeSanti was 3-3 with a triple, double and 3 runs scored. Elise Minichiello was 3-3 and scored twice. Nicole Batan, Frannie Klimczak, Elanna Sanger, Sarah Sapia, Olivia Bonini, Adrianne Kunkel, Sarah Benedetti and Mara Heyne allscored once. Sarah Sapia and Melissa Parente both turn double plays. For West Hartford, Kim Orzech and Crystal Leduc both scored runs.
Enfield 8, Windsor 4. Enfield beat Windsor 8-4 behind the steady pitching of Lindsey DeFord, who also singled. Supporting the Enfield cause was first baseman Shawna Lothian, who had a hit and scored twice along with some stellas plays in the field. But the star of the Enfield offense was the catcher, Natalie Kyparidis, who had two hits, including a homerun, and two runs scored. The U-12 MVP, Katie Krogmann, came up big with a 3 for 3 performance that included two RBIs. Windsor came to play, though. Kailey Cagney made several incredible plays at third with six assists, including all three outs in the third inning. She also contributed at the plate with a hit and a run scored. Nina Varney pitched a strong game for Windsor, and she added two hits and a run scored on offense. Battling the heat and also contributing with a solid game behind the plate was Adrienne Edwards.
Ellington 6,Coventry 0. Ellington shutout Coventry 6-0 as Morgan McPartland threw a complete game, controlling the Coventry offense with 13 strikeouts, walking two, allowing only one hit and backed up with a stiff defense. Ellington's offense came from Ashleigh "Slash" Williams (triple), Samantha Harvey (double) and Liz Miller's triple. Emma Polinski pitched very well for Coventry. Catcher Lindsay LaChance threw out four runners and had a hit.
Somers 10, South Windsor 7. Samantha Urbon pitched a complete game for Somers, striking out three and walking just two. Jessica Conlin played a strong game defensively behind the plate as did Emily Vanasse at second base, who also added a hit on offense. Erin O'Brien pitched well for South Windsor. Stephanie Rahm hit a homerun and Sara Smith also had a hit.
Suffield 15, Glastonbury 0. Angie Moskwa pitched Suffield's first shutout, allowing just 4 hits in 5 innings, striking out nine. She also went 3-3 at the plate with 3 RBIs. Colleen Moroney and Taryn Scozzari each drove in two runs. Chelsea Haydasz, Christine Dalton and Amanda Longley each had a hit for Glastonbury and played well defensively.

Jill Eitelman started for Vernon, allowing two runs in 3 hits, walked two and struck out one in two innings of work. Jamie Vallarelli pitched two innings of shutout no-hit relief, striking out two. Vallarelli (3 hits,4 RBIs) and Brianna Levick (3 hits, 2 RBIs) led Vernon's offense. Ashley Barselau had a single, a walk and two runs scored. Coventry scored one run in the first inning on an RBI-single by Lindsay LaChance and one in the 2nd inning on an RBI-single by Brittany Fowler.

Suffield 5, Windsor 2. Suffield's Angie Moskwa pitched another gem of a game, going seven innings and striking out eight against a very tough and talented Windsor team. She also went 1-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Julia Muscarella went 2-3, winding up on 3rd base through aggressive baserunning, scoring once and driving in two runs. She also helped end the game with a fine defensive play, a 1-2-3 double play (Angie to Julia to Colleen Moroney). Colleen played an excellant defensive first base the entire game. Shawnee Green went 2-3 for Windsor, scoring once. Melinda Peck had a hit and an RBI and Kaelyn Moore played well in the field.
Manchester 12, Somers 1. Manchester's bats came out swinging, in a fast-paced game that was hurried in anticipation of the coming storms. Kelly Gentilcore and Trixie Umali combined for a no-hitter, with only one run allowed on a passed ball, and the pitchers combined for 5 hits, 5 runs and 3 RBIs. Taylor Sisson came up big for the Manchester offense, with two outfield hits and 3 runs. Allie Vitkus and Sarah Bonino also had three hits each and combined for 7 RBIs. Samantha Urbon pitched a complete game for Somers, striking out three, and Emily Vanesse played an excellant defensive game at second base.
South Windsor 5, Vernon 3. In a lightning-shortened game, South Windsor came out on top 5-3 over Vernon. South scored all their runs in the second inning by stringing together 5 hits, capped off by Katie Miller's double. Michelle Scanlon had a hit and played well defensively. Emily Armstrong came away with the victory by walking only one batter & helped start the offense with a double in the first inning. Vernon played well with a combination of bunt singles, two by Kelly Falkowski, and long ball, with an Elaine Donofrio triple in the 3rd inning. Allison Burg drove her home with a base hit.
Enfield 18, West Hartford I 9. The Enfield Fireballs beat West Hartford I by a score of 18-9. Enfield's potent attack was led by Natalie Kyparidis, who homered for the second time this week. Amanda Meunier also added a homerun of her own, along with a double and 4 RBIs. Enfield's defense was strong led by the play of shortstop Britni Siana, who made several outstanding plays. West Hartford was led offensively by Jenna Allen, who had two hits, including a triple, and 4 RBIs. U-12 star Courtney Daley pitched well in relief and added a hit.

Canton 11, Granby 9. (completion of 8/3 game) In the completion of a game suspended by lightning, Canton beat Granby 11-9. Sarah Benedetti and Mara Heyne each reached base and scored twice. Nicole Batan, Elise Minichiello, Jessie Schroeder, Frannie Klimczak, Christina Cardwell and Stephanie Gauthier all scored once. Stephanie Gauthier and Deanna DeSanti played solid defense in left field at first base. Jessie Schroeder came in to relieve Frannie Klimczak in the 3rd and pitched well for the rest of the game. Olivia Bonini relieved Schroeder at catcher and played solid defense. For Granby, Bethany Grupp struck out ten and reached base four times and scored once. Hanna Lindeyer reached base four times and Stacey Brunelle scored twice.
Glastonbury 13, West Hartford II 3. (from 8/3) The final score does not show how tough this game ended up for Glastonbury as West Hartford kept it close, 5-3, until the 6th inning when Glastonbury pounded out eight runs to put the game out of reach. They were led by the pitching of Hayley Hoge, who pitched a complete game with six strikeouts. She added two hits and two runs scored on offense. Amanda Bogue was a perfect 4-4 at the plate, scoring twice. Michelle Nogas was 2-3 with 3 RBIs and Jessie Smith played a stellar 2nd base, making some key defensive plays especially in the 6th inning. West Hartford was led by Toni Davis, who pitched well and had a hit, and Michelle Vibberts, who had a hit and made some great defensive plays at third base.
Coventry 16, Somers 14. In a wild game featuring 16 hits, 17 walks and 15 errors, Coventry overcame an early deficit and held off a late surge from a relentless Somers team. Emma Polinski earned the win, pitching 6 2/3 strong innings of relief (3 hits, 5 walks, 4 strikeouts). Catcher Lindsay LaChance continued her spectacular season with a perfect performance at the plate with 3 hits, a walk and 3 runs scored. Susan Blake scored two runs and played terrific defense at shortstop. Camille Thomas led the Somers offense with two hits and two runs scored. Catcher Jessica Conlin had a solid game behind the plate and also scored twice. Sam Urban pitched a complete game for Somers and also scored a run.
Ellington 4, South Windsor 0. Homestanding Ellington beat South Windsor 4-0. Both teams traded outs until the bottom of the 2nd inning, when Ellington scored their first two runs. South had runners in scoring position in the 4th and 6th innings, but the Ellington defense and pitching kept them from pushing any runs across. Morgan McPartland threw a 1-hit complete game shutout (8K,4BB), backed up by an efficient defense. Sam Harney ran down a couple long fly balls and had a hit. Courtney Carver contributed two hits, including a double, and made some good defensive stops. South Windsor's Stephanie Rahm had a double. Jenna Borrmann and Ariel Hovland played well defensively.
Enfield 10, Glastonbury 8. (from 7/21) The Enfield Fireballs beat the Glastonbury Heat 10-8. Enfield got doubles from Natalie Kyparidis, Lindsey DeFord and Courtney Cannella. Morgan Caswell also chipped in with a hit and three runs scored. Defensively, shortstop Britni Siana made several outstanding plays as did Shawna Lothian at first base. The Glastonbury attack was led by Amanda Longley who not only had a strong pitching performance, but also contributed mightily on offense with a single, double and two runs scored. Third baseman Michelle Nogas also made some nice plays.

Granby 20, West Hartford II 9. Granby downed West Hartford II behind the offensive output of Kristin Watterlond, Stacey Brunelle and Sara Hammick. Stacey and Sara each reached base four times, scoring seven runs between them. Kristin had two big hits and 4 RBIs. Crystal Leduc, Michelle Vibberts and Abby Myers each had three hits to lead the West Hartford attack.
Windsor 10, Glastonbury 3. Windsor's offense was charged by Shauna Greene, who went 3-3 with two triples, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored and Melissa Nolan (triple, double, 2 RBIs). Windsor pitchers Nina Varney, Melissa Nolan, Lauren Backhaus and Kaelyn Moore combined for 11 strikeouts and allowed just 4 hits. Kelly O'Brien played well on defense. Glastonbury was led by Hayley Howard, who had two hits and was on base four times. Nicole Deskus came on in relief and did an excellant job, striking our four,
Coventry 15, Ellington 8. An inspired Coventry team jumped to an early lead and continued to score in all six innings. The top of Coventry's btting order, Brittney Pietro, Susan Blake and Lindsay LaChance, did the majority of the damage with speed on the bases. Brittany Fowler had two hits and scored twice. Rebecca Loftis delivered an RBI-double to left field. Emma Polinski pitched 4 strong innings of relief. The Ellington offense was led by Courtney Carver (single, 2BB, 2 runs scored). Shortstop Ashleigh Williams and catcher Alyssa Deland each scored a run and played well in the field.
Manchester 3, Hebron 1. Visiting Manchester narrowly downed a short-handed Hebron team in 7 innings. Allie Vitkus pitched 4 innings of 1-hit ball for Manchester, striking out seven and allowing no runs. Trixie Umali pitched three innings in relief, striking out five and allowing only one hit and one run. Sarah Bonino hit two doubles for Manchester and Gaby Dude, Heather Ferranti and Kelly Gentilcore all chipped in with hits. Emily Hummel threw a strong game for Hebron, striking out 11 and giving up only 5 hits. She also helped her cause with a hit and a run scored. Sara McCann played a good defensive game at first base. Loren Madore (shortstop) had a hit for Hebron and Sabrina Hund played a great game at second.
Enfield 7, Suffield 2. The Enfield Fireballs came out of the box with a 3-run first inning and went on to a 7-2 win over Suffield. Enfield was led offensively by Morgan Caswell, who had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Enfield pitcher Lindsey DeFord also chipped in with two hits and Amanda Meunier had three RBIs. Suffield had strong outings by leadoff hitter Sam Guzzi, who had two hits and a run scored, and pitcher Angie Moskwa, who recorded seven strikeouts.
South Windsor 18, Somers 2. South Windsor turned up the offense in their final regular season game. Sara Smith, Anna Cerra and Michelle Scanlon led the attack with two hits each. Kristina Wanat and Erin O'Brien combined on a five inning 1-hitter. Somers played tough while being shorthanded throughout the game. Ellington 7, Somers 6. (from 7/11) Somers came to Ellington ready to play, jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead to start the game. Ellington came back and scored runs in the first four innings to take a 7-3 lead while playing good defense, holding the Somers offense in check. Somers' relief pitcher, Samantha Urbon, came in at the bottom of the 5th inning and shut down the Ellington offense. Somers scored a run in the 6th followed by two in the 7th on a double by Amanda Granville. Ellington's defense got the final two outs to preserve the win. Camille Thomas played well in the Somers effort. Ellington's offense was provided by Grace Durgan (2 hits), Alyssa Deland and Morgan McPartland. Ellington pitcher Jocelyn Close threw a complete game, striking out five with 6 assists, and also had a hit on offense.
Coventry 8, Hebron 4. (from 7/25) In the final game of the regular season, Victoria Rametta had a career night as she led the Coventry offense with a single, double and triple. She also scored two runs and played well at third base. Brittney Pietro doubled and scored two runs and Emma Polinski pitched a complete game victory. For Hebron, Chrissy Swider singled, scored a run and played excellant defense at first base. Catcher Alicia Wojcik was solid behind the plate. Sara McCann created chaos on the base paths, scoring twice.
Vernon 13, Manchester 5. (from 7/11)
Enfield 7, Windsor 2. (from 7/11) The Enfield Fireballs capped off a perfect season by outscoring Windsor 7-2 in the season finale of the U-14 division. Enfield was led by the offensive and defensive play of their shortstop Britni Siana. Siana smashed a grand slam in the 3rd inning and made several outstanding plays in the field, including a leaping grab in the bottom of the 6th inning, taking away a sure hit. Also chipping in for Enfield was Courtney Cannella, who tripled and scored a run and started two double plays, including the games' final outs. Starting pitcher Lindsey DeFord helped her cause with a hit and two runs scored. Windsor's effort was led by the outstanding work in relief by Lauren Backhaus, who closed out the last two innings allowing only one hit. She also scored one of the Windsor runs. Starting pitcher Nina Varney also made contributions both in the circle and at the plate with a hit and a run scored.
