Coventry 3, Simsbury 2. A better ending to a tournament could not have been scripted - the last game of the weekend, the number one and two seeds face each other in the final. Simsbury and Coventry battled some tough competition to get to there and the game didn't disappoint. Pitching from both teams was solid. Taryn Braz from Simsbury and Stephanie Morin from Coventry both pitched the complete game without one walk issued by either and both fielded their position very well.
Coventry scored in the first inning when South Division MVP Eileen Zadrozny made it to third base on a bunt by Lindsay Williams and scored on a Jess Voros hit. Jess then scored on a single by Kara Sander. Simsbury answered with a double to right field by Allie Davis and a run-scoring single by Haley Tietje. Morin then pitched her way out of further trouble. Simsbury tied the score in the bottom of the third on a double by Taryn Braz and an RBI-single by Allie Davis. Some great defensive plays by outfielder Megan Leavens, 2nd baseman Lindsey Willams and 1st baseman Hannah Vignone robbed Simsbury of some base hits.
In the top of the 5th inning, Coventry pushed across a run when Stephanie Morin singled in Jess Voros. Simsbury came up to bat in the bottom of the 6th, still down 3-2. Taryn Braz singled to lead off the inning, followed by a bomb to centerfield by Allie Davis. Eileen Zadrozny cut off the throw and relayed to Kara Sander at the plate, who put the tag on Braz for the out in one of the game's most exciting moments. With another putout at the plate, Coventry preserved the 3-2 advantage. Coventry was unable to score again as the Simsbury infield of Lindsey LoStimolo, Jamie Kalogeros, Alex McDermott and Haley Tietje made all their plays. In the bottom of the 7th and final inning, Simsbury put the tieing run at second and Jamie Kalogeros stepped to the plate with two outs and lined a hard drive squarely into the glove of Lindsay Williams at second base to end the game. Coventry bested Simsbury 3-2 in a most entertaining game with both teams playing superbly with all players contributing. Coached by Tom Williams, Brian Zadrozny and Chris Morin, the Coventry tournament roster also included Mariah Francis, Sam LeBlond and Kaila Parsons. The Simsbury tournament team, coached by Brian Williams and Bob LoStimolo, also included Kelly Knisel, Maddy Pranaitis and Shelby Seaman.
