Enfield 9, Windsor 0. Despite a rain delay in Windsor, Enfield managed to win their opener by a score of 9-0. Alison Kubinski pitched the win with Alyssa Cannella pitching strong in relief, striking out four. Kyleen Klement and Regina Falkowski each had two hits and Erika Trotta had a good game defensively. Caylee Johanson pitched well for Windsor, striking out ten. Natalie McCollin had two hits and catcher Jackie Mendola had a nice hit taken away by a great catch by Enfield centerfielder Falkowski.

South Windsor 8, Simsbury 4. South Windsor won their home opener 8-4 over Simsbury. Danielle Cowee and Kim Colla (right) combined to pitch the victory. Cowee also added an insurance run after singling in the 6th inning. Bree Varley and Nettie Marciano were solid behind the plate for South. In the 5th inning, Kathy Marulanda made a nice running catch in the outfield and just avoided a collision with the right field fence in foul territory to end the inning. Simsbury's Kristina Gordon pitched a shutout for the first three innings. Kerry Gotowka was aggressive behind the plate while Jill Asensio made several solid defensive plays at 3rd to stop South Windsor rallies.

Enfield 12, Granby 9. (from 6/25) Enfield overcame a 6-run deficit with a big 5th inning and beat visiting Granby by a score of 12-9. Kyleen Klement drove in four runs with 3 doubles and a triple. Kelsey Flanagan was a defensive standout behind the plate and had a 2-run double in the 5th inning. Hillary Ridel and Erika Trotta each delivered two hits. Alyssa Cannella (left) pitched scoreless 6th and 7th innings in relief to get the win, striking out four. Julie Kindl pitched a good game for Granby, supported ably by the defensive play of Meagan McGuire. Sarah Gates had a big night offensively, reaching base all four times at bat with a double, single and two walks.
South Windsor 18, Mansfield 0 (5 innings). Visiting South Windsor blanked Mansfield in five innings. Nicole Nixon allowed just one hit and struck out six in the first 4 innings. Danielle Usiadek pitched the final inning, striking out 2 batters. Bree Varley had two hits, including a triple, to lead the offense and Jackie King chipped in with a double. Laura Evans gave a strong pitching effort for Mansfield and also collected the lone hit against Nixon. Annie Dunnack played well behind the plate for Mansfield.
Enfield 9, Hebron 3. Alison Kubinski allowed one hit in five innings to lead Enfield past Hebron. She also doubled at the plate. Kyleen Klement (right) continued her hot hitting, connecting with a grandslam homerun in the 3rd inning. Jessica Zaine had an RBI-single and made some key plays at second base. Leanne Jones had an RBI-double. Hebron's Jill Mangan pitched a good game, striking out seven. Stephanie Brown hit a double in the last inning.
Vernon 4, Granby 2 (8 innings). Mary Gordon pitched U-16's first no-hitter of the summer, striking out 19 Granby batters. Suzanne Carlson had a single and a sacrifice bunt. Rebecca Mattern tripled and Leighann Caron hit a double. Lisa Caruso pitched well for Granby but suffered the loss. Ashley Yucha and Brittany Smith had good games defensively.
Simsbury 8, Somers 0. Kristina Gordon and Abbey Williams combined on a two-hitter as Simsbury downed visiting Somers 8-0. Gordon started and pitched five superb innings, striking out 13 of the 16 batters she faced. Becca Raymond began the first Simsbury rally with an RBI-triple in the first inning. Kerry Gotowka (left) caught a fine game behind the plate and also had two hits and an RBI for Simsbury. Alysa Craig had a double and a single for Somers. April McWha pitched a solid game, allowing seven hits over seven innings. Nicole Ransom played well defensively.
Windsor 6, West Hartford 5. Windsor squeaked by visiting West Hartford under the lights behind the strong pitching of Caylee Johanson and Tracey Sanko, who combined for 13 strikeouts. West Hartford jumped to an early lead and held on until the bottom of the 6th when a combination of walks and timely hitting by Ashley Nolan, Alicia Wakefield and Amanda Ziaks gave Windsor the lead. For West Hartford, Abby Miller and Kelly Mascolo pitched well and Ashley Brazal had two hits and scored twice.
South Windsor 9, Granby 4. Visiting South Windsor's combined pitching effort from Danielle Usiadek and Danielle Cowee upended Granby 9-4. South's offense was led by Jenna Girard (3 for 4 with a triple), Kristin Wolejko (2 for 4 with 3 RBI) and Amanda Wanat (double and RBI). Lisa Caruso pitched 4 strong innings of relief for Granby. Allie Corcoran played well in the field while Sarah Gates led the offense.
Vernon 4, Simsbury 1. Mary Gordon (left) pitched a 2-hitter with 10 strikeouts as Vernon won at Simsbury 4-1. Katie Lotas was the star of the defense while playing second base, handling all six ground balls hit her way. Leighann Caron was a standout behind the plate, volunteering to catch Mary Gordon. Becca Raymond pitched well for Simsbury, striking out 14 batters. Kerry Gotowka and Megan Neureither had singles.
West Hartford 11, Hebron 10. Laura Armstrong and Alix Raymond each hit 2-run roundtrippers and pitcher Julie Carter hung on for the win as West Hartford edged Hebron 11-10. Brittany Christensen and Jill Mangan led Hebron at the plate while Danielle Dupont finished strong but took the loss.
Windsor 6, Somers 3. Caylee Johanson pitched visiting Windsor past Somers 6-3 in a west divisional contest. Ashley Nolan had clutch hits to drive in Raven runs.
Enfield 17, Mansfield 2. Lauren Miles got the win as Enfield downed visiting Mansfield. Erika Trotta had a triple, single and 3 RBI. Tamara Roman had two hits and threw a runner out at home from centerfield. Sarah Wenz hit an RBI-double and Hillary Ridel made a nice catch in fight field and also had an RBI-single. Laura Evans (right) pitched a good game for Mansfield, aided by the defensive efforts of Jackie Picard, Aubrey Desjarlais and Sarah Bajger.
South Windsor 9, Somers 8. South Windsor won a close game over visiting Somers 9-8. Somers played very good defense both in the infield and outfield but South's bats prevailed in the 7th inning to overcome a 2-run deficit, beginning with Stephanie Maura's hit. Danielle Usiadek had a homerun and a triple in 4 at-bats and Amanda Wanat went 2 for 3 with a triple. Somers' defense was led by Lindsey Cunningham. Lauren Mashiak (3 for 4) and Melissa Vamvilis (3 runs scored) were Somers' producers on offense.
Granby 11, Mansfield 5. Granby won its first game of the season by defeating visiting Mansfield 11-5. Granby jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and held on through the light rain for the win. Mansfield never gave up and stayed in the game throughout the seven innings. Relief pitcher Lindsay Rankin kept Granby at bay after a 1st inning explosion that produced seven runs. Second baseman Amy Peters played a steady defense for Mansfield. Julie Kindl pitched 7 strong innings for Granby in a rain that began in the 3rd inning. She also stopped a late-inning threat with bases loaded and none out by throwing out a runner at home, striking out the next batter and then getting a ground out. Granby took advantage of control problems by the opposing pitcher and exhibited excellant baserunning aided by a double by centerfielder Sarah Gates.
Simsbury 17, West Hartford 2. Becca Raymond (right) pitched a no-hitter and struck out 14 batters over 7 innings as Simsbury defeated West Hartford 17-2. In addition to catching a superb game, Kerry Gotowka led the Simsbury offense by driving in four runs with a double and a single. Rachel Seidner added a double, two singles and 2 RBI. She also made a number of fine defensive plays in the outfield and at second base. Julie Carter came into the game in relief for West Hartford and pitched solidly for three innings and Alix Raymond made a number of fine defensive plays in centerfield.
Windsor 6, Hebron 0. Windsor defeated visiting Hebron as Natalie McCollin and Caylee Johanson combined on a two-hitter, striking out twelve. Abby Caron scored twice and also played well defensively. Jill Mangan pitched well in relief for Hebron and Brittany Christensen had two hits.

South Windsor 8, Hebron 5. South Windsor battled Hebron to an 8 to 5 win. Kathy Marulanda led South's offense with two hits, including a triple. Kristin Wolejko played solid defense and also chipped in with a double. Danielle Usiadek pitched well in relief. Steph Brown started Hebron's offense off with a homerun. Allyssa Eisenberg and Dee Dillon also played well.

South Windsor 13, Hebron 11. South Windsor was able to hang on in the top of the 7th inning to defeat Hebron 13-11. Kathy Marulanda and Kristin Wolejko went 3 for 3 and both played outstanding defense. Amanda Wanat, Bree Varley and Nettie Marciano all chipped in with doubles. Visiting Hebron rallied in the 7th inning, scored 8 of their 11 runs. Stephanie Brown and Stephanie Smith both had two hits. Brown started the game with a triple. Hebron's Megan Fenton had a 3-run single in the last-inning explosion. South catcher Bree Varley and pitcher Jacquie O'Brien ended Hebron's rally catching a runner attempting to steal home.
Vernon 12, Somers 7. Vernon won on the road, downing Somers 12-7. Rachel Laster led the winners with a triple and two singles. Leighann Caron had a triple and a single and Suzanne Carlson doubled and singled. Melissa Rebai and Mary Gordon provided the opportunity for the younger players to witness the base-sliding skills that are required to play in the U-16 league. Alysa Craig stole four bases and scored twice for Somers. Katie Skypek played a good defensive game.
Simsbury 15, Mansfield 0. Kristina Gordon (left) pitched a perfect game as Simsbury defeated Mansfield 15-0. Gordon struck out 10 batters in five innings of work. She also contributed to the Simsbury offense by singling home two runs in the first inning. Kerry Gotowka caught a terrific game and drove in two runs with a triple and a single. Devan Gotowka added two base hits and two RBI and made a number of fine plays in the infield. Mansfield was led by the strong outfield play of Jackie Picard and some excellant defensive work by Michelle Fontaine at second base and Johanna Berry at first base.
Windsor 5, Granby 4. Windsor defeated visiting Granby in a close game that went down to the last out. For Windsor, Angela Witwicki went 1 for 2 with a walk and scored twice. The 5th inning was big for Windsor with four hits and two runs scoring, including what turned out to be the game winning hit by Amanda Ziaks. Natalie McCollin, starting for Windsor, ran into some early control problems and was relieved by Caylee Johanson (right). Johanson finished the game for Windsor, striking out nine batters. Granby scored twice in the 7th inning, coming up just short of tieing the game. Lisa Caruso pitched a solid, complete game for Granby, striking out five Windsor batters. The home and away continues back at Granby on July 18th.
West Hartford 9, Enfield 8. West Hartford handed Enfield their first loss of the season by a score of 9-8. Alix Raymond blasted a triple in the bottom of the 7th inning to drive in the tieing run and then scored on a passed ball for the walk-off win. Kelly Mascolo launched a 2-run homer in support of Julie Carter, who went the distance to get the win. In the losing cause, Dawn Ezold and Kyleen Klement combined for five hits and five RBI and Lauren Miles struck out six West Hartford batters.
Enfield 1, Simsbury 0. Enfield defeated Simsbury 1-0 as Alison Kubinski pitched a great game, ending up with a two-hitter. Erika Trotta had a tremendous game behind the plate, throwing out two attempted steals. Alyssa Cannella had two of Enfield's three hits and the game's only RBI. Sarah Wenz had a hit for Enfield as well. For Simsbury, Kristina Gordon struck out 14 and allowed only three hits. Devan Gotowka and Becca Raymond each had a hit and both played well defensively.
Vernon 3, Hebron 0. Vernon derailed the Express 3-0 behind Mary Gordon's 15-strikeout performance. She also won the game on the other side with a double, single and two RBI. Beth Paterson had a triple and also made a nice catch in the outfield. Mary Falkowski did an excellant job behind the plate. Jill Mangan pitched very well for Hebron, striking out eleven. Kara Pinto had two hits and Dee Dillon made a nice diving catch in the outfield.
Granby 6, West Hartford 2 (9 innings). Granby defeated West Hartford in extra innings in a defensive battle. Granby broke the game open in the 9th after both sides had stopped rallies with stellar fielding. Lisa Caruso went the distance for Granby, supported by defensive plays that stopped late scoring threats including a first (Julie Kindl) to home (Ashley Yucha) double play in the 6th to keep the score tied. Sarah Gates played a superb third base and was also the offensive star with two doubles, two runs scored and collecting the game-winning RBI in the ninth inning. West Hartford's Kelly Mascolo pitched all nine innings and Kyle Roncaioli did a great job behind the plate. Centerfielder Alix Raymond hit a triple and made several running catches in the field.

Catcher Kyle Roncaioli (right) anchored a tough WH defense as Kate Mainelli had a strong defensive game at shortstop. Breeanne Varley and Kathy Marulanda hit safely for South Windsor. Marulanda also scored their lone run.
Enfield 11, Somers 6. Lauren Miles (6K) pitched the win and also had two hits at the plate as Enfield downed visiting Somers. Enfield broke open a close game with a big sixth inning begun by back-to-back doubles by Alyssa Cannella and Kyleen Klement. Sarah Wenz's 3-run triple also highlighted the inning. Jessica Zaine had two hits and played great defense. Alyssa Craig led Somers with two hits and also played very well on defense. Kara Pellin also had two hits. Tara Butler pitched a good game for Somers and Lauren Mashiak came up with some big catches in centerfield.

Alyssa Cannella led the Fireball offense with a 4 for 4 night (single, double, 2 homeruns). Sarah Wenz (2 singles, homerun) and Regina Falkowski (2 singles, triple) also had hot bats. Laura Evans pitched a good game for Mansfield. Meghan Geary had the lone hit and Aubrey Desjarlais (left) played well at shortstop.

Enfield 5, South Windsor 3. Enfield defeated South Windsor 5-3 with pitcher Ali Kubinski (right) and catcher Erika Trotta leading the way. Kubinski pitched a good game and Trotta protected home plate, throwing out two steal attempts and tagging out three South Windsor runners at home. They teamed with Alyssa Cannella on a bases-loaded double play to end a 3rd inning South rally.
Trotta also led the hitters, going 3 for 3 with a double and two RBI. Kubinski added a hit and an RBI. Jessica Zaine and Tamara Roman each had two hits for Enfield and Dawn Ezold made key catches in centerfield. Bree Varley (left) had a pair of hits for South Windsor. Jenna Girard had a double followed by a Nicole Nixon 2-RBI single. Christine Lemieux had a double and a single and Nettie Marciano had a single, double and triple, finishing one hit short of the cycle.
Simsbury 8, West Hartford 0. Kristina Gordon pitched a complete game shutout over visiting West Hartford, yielding just two hits and striking out 17 batters. Kelly Overbye led the Simsbury hitters with a triple, double and two runs batted in. Kerry Gotowka also had a fine game at the plate, doubling twice and driving in a run. Karlie Welch's strong defensive effort was highlighted by a shoestring catch in right field. West Hartford's Kelly Mascolo and Julie Carter combined to pitch a good game in the loss. Ashley Brazal had two base hits and made some nice fielding plays.
Granby 3, Somers 0. Julie Kindl and Lisa Caruso teamed up to pitch a three-hit shutout over Somers. Somers threatened in the seventh inning, putting runners at second and third, but were unable to score. Allie Corcoran (2B) and Chelsie Hayes (RF) had good games on defense for Granby. Crista Maggio had a single and two stolen bases for Somers and catcher Katie Skypek threw out three Granby baserunners at second base and picked another runner off first base.
Vernon 16, Mansfield 3. Beth Paterson pitched a great game as Vernon won at Mansfield. Melissa Rebai had a single, double and triple and Rachel Laster a double and triple. Amanda Viens reached base safely five times. Mansfield catcher Kristen Gencorelli had a good defensive game and also did well at the plate. Johanna Berry (2B) and Laura Evans also played well defensively.
Simsbury 6, Windsor 3. (from 7/21) Devan Gotowka and Kerry Gotowka had run-scoring singles in the seventh inning to lead Simsbury to a come from behind victory in Windsor. Trailing 3-2 after six innings, Simsbury's Betsy Ray and Jenna Marhefki worked out walks before scoring the tieing and winning runs. Becca Raymond pitched seven very strong innings, striking out 10 batters and allowing just five hits. In addition to playing well at catcher, Kerry Gotowka had two hits and two RBI for the winners. Caylee Johanson pitched a superb game for Windsor, striking out 14 and giving up only four hits in 6 innings of work. Angela Witwicki (right) had two base hits and an RBI. Lauren Ziaks added a single and an RBI, also playing an outstanding game at catcher. Tracey Sanko made a number of fine plays defensively for Windsor.

Trailing 6-3 in the sixth inning, Rachel Seidner began a 4-run Simsbury rally with a leadoff base hit. In addition to catching a great game, Megan Neureither led the Simsbury offense with a double and two singles. Kelly Overbye made some nice catches in centerfield and had two hits in the game. For Granby, Lisa Caruso pitched seven solid innings and also drove in two runs with a double and a single. Sarah Gates added two well-hit doubles and had 2 RBIs. Chelsie Hayes had a base hit and played well defensively.
Somers 4, West Hartford 0. In a scoreless game after 5 1/2 innings, Somers came through for four runs, capped by a 3-run triple by April McWha. Lindsey Cunningham had seven putouts and threw out one at the plate. Tara Butler went the distance, striking out seven. For West Hartford, Lauren Clark reached base twice and Alix Raymond hit a triple. Julie Carter pitched six innings, allowing just three hits until the 6th inning, striking out two.
Vernon 3, South Windsor 0. Mary Gordon pitched a 3-hitter with 11Ks at Vernon edged South Windsor. Melissa Rebai and Beth Paterson made some outstanding catches in the outfield to turn back South threats. Danielle Usiadek pitched an excellant game for South Windsor. Kristin Wolejko and Sarah Archambeault led the offense.

Vernon 4, Hebron 1. (from 7/23) Vernon remained unbeaten, downing Hebron 4-1. Mary Gordon pitched a 3-hitter, striking out 16. She also had two hits at the plate. Sherri Gandini homered, Amanda Viens had two singles and Alyssa Hoyt had an RBI-single. Danielle Dupont pitched well but took the loss. Stephanie Smith scored Hebron's run and play well defensively at third base. Jessica D'Anzi had a good game at the plate.
Enfield 6, Hebron 4. Sarah Wenz led the way for Enfield, going 3 for 3 with a double and two triples. She also played a good game defensively. Lauren Miles pitched the win and Dawn Ezold had two RBI and was outstanding at the shortstop position. For Hebron, Brittany Christensen, Jessica D'Anzi and Danielle Dupont had good games.
Somers 8, Simsbury 1. Tara Butler pitched a complete game 1-hitter, striking out eleven, as Somers downed visiting Simsbury. Nicole Ransom had a 2-RBI single in the second inning when Somers scored six of their runs. Crista Maggio scored two runs for Somers. Rachel Seidner scored Simsbury's only run and also stole a base in the seventh inning. Megan Neureither had Simsbury's only hit, a double, and Kristina Gordon pitched shutout relief.
South Windsor 16, Mansfield 1 (5 innings). South Windsor defeated Mansfield 16-1 in five innings. Nicole Nixon led South's defense, pitching a 2-hitter and allowing no earned runs. She also helped herself with 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Danielle Usiadek also had a good night at the plate, going 3 for 4 with two doubles and 4 RBIs. Kathy Marulanda, Nettie Marciano and Amanda Wanat played excellant defense for South Windsor. With two outs in the third inning, Mansfield's Amy Peters hit an RBI-triple to account for their run. Aubrey Desjarlais and Lindsay Rankin had good games defensively.
West Hartford 10, Windsor 6. West Hartford jumped out to an early lead with a 6-run first inning, but Windsor made it interesting later on to make it a 10-6 decision. Kyle Roncaioli, Allie Mainelli and Ashley Brazal each had perfect 2 for 2 nights at the plate and Kelly Mascolo hung on for the win. Natalie McCollin was 2 for 3 for Windsor. Lauren Ziaks drove in two runs and Tracey Sanko came on strong in relief for the Ravens.
Vernon 6, South Windsor 0. (from 6/23) Mary Gordon pitched a 16K shutout in the conclusion of a game suspended by rain earlier in the season. Michelle Laboda and Rebecca Mattern led Vernon's offense. Jenna Girard had two hits and played well in the field for South Windsor. Nicole Nixon pitched well and Erin Coburn made some nice defensive plays.

Windsor 11, Somers 7. (from 7/23) Windsor defeated visiting Somers under the lights in the sweltering heat at Welch Park. Tracey Sanko pitched a complete game for Windsor, striking out 6 batters. Windsor had a big 5th inning, scoring six times on hits by Amanda Ziaks, Natalie McCollin, Alicia Wakefield and Ashley Nolan. Lauren Ziaks and Jackie Mendola combined to catch a great game. Mendola also went 2 for 3 at the plate, scoring a run, for Windsor. Somers' Tara Butler also pitched a complete game and had two hits, including a nice double in a 7th inning 4-run rally. For a while in the seventh, it looked like Somers may have had a tired Sanko on the ropes. April McWha also added two hits and Kara Pellin played well defensively for Somers.

For Windsor, Tracey Sanko pitched a complete game shutout, recording 13 strikeouts. Amanda Ziaks went 2 for 3 with a walk and scored three times. Also scoring three times was Natalie McCollin. Ashley Nolan added a double and two walks and scored twice. Windsor played a very tight defense all night with Abby Caron, Angela Witwicki and Lauren Maloney playing very well. For Mansfield, Amanda Frederick pitched a good game and Julianna Stuart (2B) and Lindsay Rankin (3B) played well on defense.
Vernon 3, Enfield 0. (from 8/5) Vernon claimed first place in the East Division as Mary Gordon pitched a complete game shutout and helped herself with an RBI-single. Rebecca Mattern hit a 2-run double and played great at first base. Suzanne Carlson had two singles and Nicole Albertson one. Alyssa Hoyt and Sherri Gandini made some nice catches in the outfield. Leighann Caron, Beth Paterson and Amanda Viens played outstanding defense. Ali Kubinski pitched a great game for Enfield and also singled at the plate. Hillary Ridel also had a hit. Alyssa Cannella played a great defensive game at first base.
Simsbury 2, Windsor 1. (from 8/1) Becca Raymond struck out 14 batters and allowed just two base hits over seven innings to lead Simsbury to a 2-1 win over Windsor. Ashley Drake had the key hit in the game, driving in both Simsbury runs with a double in the fifth inning. Kerry Gotowka played five strong innings at catcher, throwing out one baserunner. Megan Neureither made a number of fine plays at third base, and also threw out one runner after switching to catcher late in the game. Caylee Johanson pitched six superb innings for Windsor, allowing two hits and striking out seven. Tracey Sanko was very effective in relief, retiring all three batters that she faced in the seventh inning. The Windsor offense was led by Ashley Nolan and Natalie McCollin, who each had base hits in the game. Nolan also played a strong game defensively in left field, highlighted by an exciting shoestring catch of a line drive in the fourth inning.
Granby 10, Somers 8. (from 7/9) Granby defeated Somers in a game shortened by darkness to fine innings and highlighted by a strong defensive showing by both teams. Somers had a balanced attack, getting two runs in four of the five innings. Granby started slowly but exploded for five runs in the fourth inning and then for four more in the fifth. Becca Gamble had a strong offensive game for Granby, going 3 for 3, including a triple, a walk, two stolen bases and 4 runs scored. Lisa Caruso went 4 for 4 with two doubles and three runs scored. Chelsie Hayes also found her bat and went 2 for 3 with a strong line drive double. For Somers, Mindy Oswell had a good night in the field as well as at bat going 2 for 3 with a line drive double.
