2004 U-16 SEASON GAME SUMMARIES

Monday, June 28th
West Hartford 10, Simsbury 3. Becca Demers pitched a complete game, yielding just six hits and striking out seven, as West Hartford opened the season with a 10-3 win at home. Offensively, the key run-producing hits were a triple by Allison Tracey and a double by Becca Demers. Ashley Brazal, Allison Czapla and Allison Tracey each had two hits and two runs scored. Defensively, Ashley Brazal played a flawless left field and Mallory Crawford did an outstanding job behind the plate. For Simsbury, Becca Raymond, Abbey Williams and Danielle Somer combined to strike out 10 West Hartford batters. Kelly Overbye made a number of fine plays at first base. Jill Roop scored two runs and also played well defensively.
Vernon 4, South Windsor 2. Vernon opened with a win as Mary Gordon struck out twelve in 5 innings pitched and also tripled in two runs. Ashley Bloxam had two singles and did an excellant job catching. Alyssa Hoyt made a nice running catch in centerfield and then doubled the runner off second base. Jacquie O'Brien pitched a good game for South Windsor. Marianne Specker had a pair of singles and Marissa Foley played well defensively.
Somers 8, Hebron 2. The Titans opened their season with an 8-2 win over Hebron. Homestanding Somers used a stingy defense and a balanced offensive attack to secure the win, scoring runs in all six offensive innings with seven different players scoring. Jaclyn Shepard hit an RBI double in the first inning to plate the first run of the season. She added a single in the third inning to go 2 for 3 for the evening. Delia Bardsley went 2 for 2 with two bunt singles, scoring on a Tara Butler RBI single in the fifth inning. The Titan defense looked sharp, with a nice backup pickoff at second base by right fielder Alicia Courtois. Sarah Hills picked up the win, scattering five hits, striking out five and walking none. Hebron's Stephanie Brown hit a 2-run triple in the third to knot the score at 2-2. Molly Rathbun smacked a double in the fifth and Jess Hayden, Jess D'Anzi and Alyssa Yardis also added hits for the Express with Yardis scoring on Rathbun's triple.

Wednesday, June 30th
Hebron 17, Marlborough 0 (5 innings). Hebron defeated Marlborough 17-0 after 5 innings. Molly Rathbun earned the win for the Express, allowing one hit while striking out 10 batters. The offense was paced by Emma Rathbun with a homerun, a triple and 5 RBIs. Allyssa Eisenberg added two singles and a triple and Meg Fenton also contributed two singles and 4 RBIs. For Marlborough, Amy Lemieux started the game with a lead-off single. Emily Hummel played well defensively in the outfield and Alyssa Hovanec was solid behind the plate.
Granby 7, Enfield 6. Granby edged Enfield in the opener for both teams. Lisa Caruso earned the win, striking out eleven. Meghan McGuire tripled among two hits and knocked in two runs. Alyssa Cannella absorbed the loss for Enfield, striking out eight batters. She helped her own cause with RBI-double.
Windsor 8, Suffield 0. The Ravens defeated visiting Suffield at Welch Park behind the strong pitching of Tracey Sanko and Nicole Miller who combined for 13 strikeouts. With a two-run lead going into the fifth inning, Sanko delivered a 2-run homerun over the centerfield fence setting off a six run rally for Windsor. Meaghan Maloney had two hits and Jackie Mendola and Kim Marris combined for a solid catching performance. Brynn Scozzari played a good game behind the plate for Suffield and Melanie Chapman was exceptional at shortstop.
Thursday, July 1st
Granby 2, Windsor 1. (from 7/2) Granby defeated Windsor in extra innings by a score of 2-1. The winning run was scored by Emily Bastiaanse on a single by Becca Gamble in the eighth inning with the infield drawn in. In the top of the eight, Windsor threatened with a runner at third with one out. A bunt attempt was fielded by pitcher Lisa Caruso who then faked a throw to first and caught the runner at home. The game featured a remarkable pitchers' duel as Windsor's Tracey Sanko threw a one-hitter and Granby's Caruso had a two-hit effort. Each pitcher struck out 15 as both teams struggled to reach base. Melissa Wilhelm accounted for Windsor's only run in the first inning with an opposite field hit, a stolen base and then scoring on an infield out. Amanda Ross played a strong game at shortstop for the Ravens.
Somers 16, Simsbury 6. (from 7/21) The visiting Titans took advantage of some 1st and 7th inning Simsbury miscues to post a 16-6 victory. Michelle Milliken led Somers with 3 hits and 3 RBIs. Tara Butler scored four times. Crista Maggio and Leanne Golden each plated three runs. Mindy Oswell made a key defensive play in the 6th inning, throwing out a Simsbury runner at the plate from centerfield to end a possible rally. Becca Raymond led Simsbury with two hits, scoring twice. Kelly Overbye also scored twice. Danielle Somen was excellant on the defensive side .
In the circle, Tara Butler picked up the win for the Titans, with 6K, 9BB and giving up two hits in 3-2/3 innings. Sarah Hills walked one, struck out four and gave up two hits in relief. For Simsbury, Abbey Williams had 9 strikeouts, 8 walks and scattered 8 hits.
Friday, July 2nd
Enfield 5, Simsbury 4. Enfield defeated Simsbury 5-4 behind pitchers Alyssa Cannella and Rheena Ware (10 strikeouts combined) and catcher Jess Crank. Regina Falkowski contributed with a strong defensive game, highlighted by a great running catch in centerfield. Kyleen Klement had 3 RBIs for Enfield. Becca Raymond (pitcher) and Rachel Seidner (catcher) were a strong battery for Simsbury, scattering only five Enfield hits. Becca Raymond and Abbey Williams led the offense.
South Windsor at Marlborough rescheduled to Thursday, August 5th.
West Hartford at Suffield postponed to a later date.
Windsor at Granby rescheduled to Thursday, July 1st.
Monday, July 5th
Granby 7, Simsbury 1. Granby defeated Simsbury 7-1 at home under threatening skies. Lisa Caruso struck out ten and allowed just one walk, keeping Simsbury at bay. Andrea Bastiaanse, batting lead-off for Granby, walk twice, hit and RBI double and scored three times. Ashley Yucha did a great job behind the plate allowing no passed balls and throwing out a runner attempting to steal third base. Simsbury pitcher Becca Raymond recorded 9Ks and Vanessa Misciagna had a strong defensive game. Lead-off batter Rachel Seidner went 2 for 2 at the plate and scored the sole run for Simsbury.
Vernon 15, Marlborough 4. Hannah Koch struck out 13 as Vernon defeated Marlborough 15-4. Alyssa Hoyt, DeDe Baker and Katie Lotas had two hits each and Megan Coughlin led the defense. Ana Kopec, Alyssa Hovanec and Ashley Lang had good games for Marlborough.
Somers at South Windsor (AR) rescheduled to Monday, August 2nd.
Wednesday, July 7th
Enfield 9, West Hartford 0. Alyssa Cannella pitched a no-hitter over West Hartford to a final score of 9-0. She also had 3 hits and 4 RBIs. Kyleen Klement had 3 hits and 3 RBIs and Dawn Ezold, Amy Angeloni and Regina Falkowski had two hits apiece. Rebecca Demers pitched well for West Hartford and Allison Tracey and Mallory Crawford were strong on defense.
Windsor 3, Simsbury 0. Windsor defeated Simsbury at Welsh Park behind the no-hit shutout pitching of Tracey Sanko, who struck out eleven. The only scoring in the game occurred in the bottom of the fourth when Windsor used a combination of small-ball and a few unlucky fielding miscues by Simsbury to score the three runs of the game. For Simsbury, Abbey Williams pitched a good game, Megan Neureither caught a good game and Kelly Overbye played a great game at first base. Amanda Ziaks and Melissa Wilhelm had outstanding games at third base and second base, respectively, for Windsor.
Hebron 2, South Windsor 1. Hebron defeated South Windsor in a well played 2-1 match up. Molly Rathbun pitched a complete game one-hitter for Hebron, striking out ten. At the plate, Rathbun's single in the 4th inning drove in Hebron's first run. She was followed by Kara Pinto's sacrifice fly which brought in Jess Hayden with the winning run. Christine Garrity tripled in the 6th inning for South's only hit and later scored the team's lone run. Defensively, Kim Colla and Jackie King played well in the outfield.
Vernon 9, Somers 1. Vernon won at Somers as Rebecca Mattern (triple), Katie Lotas (two singles) and Mary Gordon (single,double) were the leaders on offense. Jamie Boyko made a nice running catch in the outfield. Tara Butler pitched well for Somers, striking out nine batters. Alicia Courtois had a good game behind the plate defensively. Mindy Oswell doubled and Justine Monahan had a hit and a sacrifice.
Granby 11, Suffield 3.
Friday, July 9th
Enfield 6, Windsor 3. Enfield defeated Windsor 6-3 at Welsh Park. Susan Scanlon and Regina Falkowski hit RBI-singles in the third inning to start things off. Nicole Serafin's RBI-double in the fifth brought in Enfield's fourth run. Alyssa Cannella and Dawn Ezold singled and scored in the seventh. Cannella pitched the win , striking out seven, and Rheena Ware came in with one out in the seventh to pick up the save, striking out the last two Windsor batters. Tracey Sanko pitched a good game for Windsor, striking out 13. Kim Marris played well both in the outfield and behind the plate and she singled and scored. Alicia Wakefield had two hits for Windsor and played well in the outfield.
Simsbury 9, Suffield 3. Simsbury gained their first victory of the season with a 9-3 win over Suffield. Danielle Somen pitched a complete game, allowing just six hits. Abbey Williams (3 hits), Becca Raymond and Ashley Drake each scored twice to lead the offense and also anchored an outstanding defensive effort by the entire Simsbury team. Shanie Ballentine added a key catch in centerfield and teamed with Rachel Primmer to catch a solid game. Mel Chapman and Brynn Scozzari had two hits each to lead the Suffield offense.
Vernon 3, Hebron 2. Ashley Bloxam's two singles and Mary Gordon's double were the key hits in Vernon's 3-2 win over the visiting Express. DeDe Baker made a great catch in centerfield and Jamie Boyko played great defense at first base. Danielle Dupont pitched a very good game for Hebron, striking out five. Brianna Yardis knocked in both Hebron runs. Kara Pinto had a solid game defensively at first base.
Granby 10, West Hartford 6.

Monday, July 12th
Enfield 16, Marlborough 7. Amy Angeloni pitched Enfield past Marlborough 16-7, allowing just one hit. She also singled twice at the plate. Dawn Ezold was strong behind the plate and had three base hits. For Marlborough, Kelli Breeden was solid on defense and catcher Alyssa Hovanec had their only hit, a double.
Windsor 7, Somers 4. Windsor defeated the home team in Somers behind the combined pitching of Tracey Sanko and Abby Caron. Sanko had nine strikeouts before being relieved by Caron in the sixth. Windsor struck Somers' starter Sarah Hills for five runs in the first before she settled down, holding Windsor to only two runs the rest of the way. For Windsor, catcher Jackie Mendola went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and Amanda Ziaks went 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored. Kim Marris played a great game filling in at shortstop. For Somers, Justine Monahan and Michelle Millikin played well defensively at shortstop and first base, respectively.
South Windsor 6, West Hartford 0. Nicole Nixon pitched a complete game shutout for South Windsor, striking out nine and giving up three hits. Kathy Marulanda went 2 for 3 and scored two runs. Jenna Girard played well defensively and added two hits and a run scored. Jen Alvarez and Ashley Brazal each went 1 for 2 for West Hartford. Lindsay Toper had a good game in the field.
Hebron 17, Simsbury 1. Behind a strong pitching performance from Molly Rathbun and a tight defense, Hebron defeated Simsbury 17-1. Rathbun allowed just one hit and struck out seven. Offensively, she supplied the key hit with a 3-run homer in the first inning. Jess Hayden went 3 for 3 at the plate. In the field, fine defensive plays were turned in by Kara Pinto and Danielle Dupont. Rachel Seidner singled in the first for Simsbury's only hit and Ashley Drake played well defensively.
Vernon 16, Suffield 1. Vernon got homeruns from Amanda Viens, Kathleen Babcock and Allie DeVaux to down Suffield 16-1. Katie Lotas also supported the offense with three singles. April McWha, Caitlin McGunigle and Caitlin Brault played well for Suffield.
Wednesday, July 14th
South Windsor 3, Windsor 2. South won on the road as Nicole Nixon (9Ks) pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. Jen Hunt reached base on an infield hit and scored the first run in the fourth inning. Windsor scored their two runs in sixth inning on South reliever Kim Colla. South's Marianne Specker hit a double in the top of the seventh inning but was thrown out at the plate by the leftfielder. Jenna Girard and Jacquie O'Brien then both singled and eventually scored on Kristin Wolejko's hit. Nixon re-entered as pitcher in the bottom of the seventh and gave up a leadoff single to Abby Caron but struck out the next two batters and forced a 4-3 groundout to end the game. Tracey Sanko pitched a very good game for Windsor, yeilding just four hits and striking out seven.
Vernon 16, West Hartford 2. Mary Gordon single and doubled as Vernon won at West Hartford. Hannah Koch and Alyssa Hoyt both hit doubles. Lindsey Toper hit a double for West Hartford and Gloria Torres pitched well in relief.
Enfield 3, Hebron 2. Enfield defeated Hebron 3-2 with Kim Collins pitching (7Ks) and Dawn Ezold strong behind the plate. Susan Scanlon played well defensively and Enfield's hits came from Rheena Ware, Kyleen Klement and Nicole Serafin. Molly Rathbun (8Ks) pitched well for Hebron. She also doubled and scored one of their runs. Kara Pinto doubled and knocked in the other run. Danielle Dupont had a good game on defense at second base.
Suffield 14, Marlborough 6. (from 6/28)
Thursday, July 15th
Simsbury 12, West Hartford 3. (from 7/28) Becca Raymond hurled a no-hitter and struck out ten batters in leading Simsbury to a 12-3 victory over West Hartford. Rachel Seidner sparked the Simsbury offense with two base hits and two runs scored. Abbey Williams and Kelly Overbye each doubled and drove in two runs apiece. Shanie Ballentine made a number of fine plays at third base for Simsbury. Divya Chari pitched well for West Hartford, allowing just two base hits over the last four innings. Kyle Roncaioli was a defensive standout, playing well at catcher and first base for West Hartford.
Friday, July 16th
Enfield 8, Somers 7. Enfield came from behind to beat visiting Somers in the last inning. Kyleen Klement hit an over-the-fence homerun to tie the score, followed by a double by Dawn Ezold. Sarah Wenz then drove in the winning run. Regina Falkowski and Rheena Ware each did some spectacular baserunning that kept Enfield in the game. Catcher Dawn Ezold was also instrumental by cutting down three would-be Somers base stealers. Susan Scanlon's defensive plays were impressive and Kim Collins pitched the win. Sarah Hills pitched well for Somers and also had a hit. Mindy Oswell also played well defensively.
Granby 6, Hebron 2. Granby improved to 6-0, downing visiting Hebron by a score of 6-2. The game featured excellant defense with Hebron's shortstop Rosey Boudreau turning an unassisted double play and rookie catcher Kellie Zima having a fine game behind the plate. On offense, Hebron's Allyssa Eisenberg hit a triple to drive in their two runs. Granby's Lisa Caruso threw a two-hitter, striking out nine. Julie Kindl played impressive defense splitting time between second and first base. Chrissy Blake collected an timely RBI-single in the fourth inning of the win.

Sunday, July 18th
Granby 18, Simsbury 11. (from 8/2) Granby, led by pitcher Lisa Caruso, defeated Simsbury by the score of 18-11. Caruso turned in a remarkable performance, both at bat and in the field. She collected 4 hits for the cycle (homerun,triple,double,single), had 6 RBIs, was the starting pitcher and saved her own game in relief. After Granby jumped out to a 9-0 lead, Caruso was lifted in the fourth inning for a relief pitcher. Simsbury never gave up, roaring right back with timely hitting to score 7 runs in the bottom of the inning. The next inning, Caruso was reinserted as pitcher and finished the game with a save. Also performing well in the field was Meg Chapple, making some excellant plays at second, and Ashley Yucha at first. Simsbury was led on offense by Becca Raymond with a triple, double and 2 RBIs and Lisa Martinelli, who had two hits and a run batted in. Martinelli also made some great plays in centerfield as did Rachel Primmer at second base.
Monday, July 19th
Granby 6, Somers 3. Visiting Granby outlasted a determined Somers team by the score of 6-3. Granby grabbed the lead with a 6-run third inning and held on as Somers fought back. Somers scored one in the bottom of the third and added another two in the seventh but Granby hung on to gain their eighth win. Somers pitcher Tara Butler gave a valiant effort and catcher Tara Heffernan played an excellant game behind the plate. Also playing good defense were Sarah Hills at third and Leanne Golden at second. Granby's Meg McGuire played an exceptional game at third as Somers tried "small-ball" to counter the overpowering pitching of Lisa Caruso, who scattered four hits over seven innings, striking out seven and walking only one. Julie Kindl played well at shortstop and Chelsie Hayes collected two hits for Granby.
Enfield 6, South Windsor 1. Enfield defeated South Windsor behind a strong team defense. Crystal Haynes, Megan Kradas and Lauren Miles played well defensively to keep the South Windsor offense to one run. Alyssa Cannella pitched the win, with relief in the sixth from Rheena Ware. Haynes, Miles, Susan Scanlon and Sara Wenz had key hits for Enfield. South Windsor's Nettie Marciano played well at second base . Kim Colla pitched three shutout innings in relief and Amanda Wanat had a good game at the plate.
Hebron 14, West Hartford 3. Hebron improved its record to 4-4 by defeating West Hartford 14-3. Danielle Dupont earned the win and got solid defensive play from Rosie Boudreau, Jess Hayden and Allyssa Eisenberg. At the plate, Dupont went 3 for 4, Eisenberg was 2 for 4 and Stephanie Brown drove in three runs with a bases-loaded triple. For West Hartford, Mallory Crawford played well behind the plate and added a double in the second inning. Lindsey Toper played good defense in the outfield and Allison Czapla singled and pitched well in relief.
Windsor 8, Simsbury 5. The Windsor Ravens scored five quick runs in the first inning and held on to win their second meeting of the summer with the home team, Simsbury. Tracey Sanko pitched another outstanding game for Windsor for the first five innings and Abby Caron pitched well finishing up in relief. The Ravens were helped out by the defense of Margaret Silva at first base, who made two spectacular plays to shut down Simsbury rallies. Amanda Ross and Kat Edwards also played well defensively and Meaghan Maloney stretched out two walks into two runs scored with aggressive baserunning. For Simsbury, Kelly Overbye went 3 for 3, scored twice and played a great game at first base. Ashley Drake and Megan Neureither also played well.
Wednesday, July 21st
Hebron 9, Suffield 1. In the final two innings, Hebron rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Suffield 9-1. Kara Pinto hit a 2-run single in the sixth inning, giving Hebron the lead. Meg Fenton added a triple in the seventh inning, driving in a run. Alyssa Yardis and Brianna Yardis were both two for three at the plate and played well in the field. Mel Chapman and April McWha both singled in the first inning for Suffield. Caitlin McGunigle played well defensively.
West Hartford 20, Marlborough 4. Jennifer Matthews went 4 for 5 and scored five runs as WEst Hartford bested Marlborough 20-4 in 5 innings. Divya Chari and Rebecca Demers spread four hits pitching in the victory. Mallory Crawford had a perfect 2 for 2 night and scored three runs. Chari and Allison Tracey each had 3 RBIs. Alyssa Hovanec, also perfect at the plate, was 3 for 3 for Marlborough. Chrissy Swider completed an unassisted double play in the losing effort.
Vernon 6, Enfield 3. Vernon won at Enfield as Mary Gordon earned the complete game decision, striking out seven. Sarah Browning came out swinging and collected two singles. Ashley Bloxam reached base all three times that she went to the plate. Sue Scanlon had a single for Enfield. Kyleen Klement played very well defensively at first base.
Granby 5, South Windsor 4. Visiting South Windsor took advantage of a leadoff error to score a run in the top of the first inning against Granby. The lead held until the bottom of the fourth when Granby strung together three consecutive bunts followed by a couple hits to push five runs across the plate. This was all the scoring Granby needed as they held on for a 5-4 win. South Windsor mounted a comeback in the seventh inning but fell short. The game featured a pitcher's duel between Granby's Lisa Caruso (7IP,8K,1BB,3 hits) and South Windsor's Nicole Nixon (6IP,8K,2BB,7 hits). Nixon helped her effort by hitting a 2-run double in the seventh inning. Sara Cherpinsky singled in another run for South. Caruso also collected 2 RBIs for Granby with a timely hit in the fourth and Sarah Gates went 2 for 2 with a single, double and a walk. Christine Gerrity had a strong defensive game in right field for South Windsor and Julie Kindl made some excellant plays for Granby at shortstop.

Friday, July 23rd
Windsor 7, Marlborough 0. (forfeit)
Suffield at Somers rescheduled to Thursday, August 5th.

Simsbury at South Windsor (AR) rescheduled to Wednesday, August 11th.
Monday, July 26th
Granby 7, Enfield 3. Granby pulled off a come from behind victory in the top of the seventh inning to best Enfield 7-3. Alyssa Cannella had allowed only one Granby hit through six innings and seemed in command. However, Courtney McGuire got an infield hit, followed by a walk and two consecutive bunts and Granby took the lead. Pitcher Lisa Caruso (10Ks) helped her own cause with a 2-run double to cap a 6-run seventh inning. Alexis Mattia had two hits and two RBIs and Chrissy Blake scored twice after a bunt single and a walk and helped ignite the offense. Enfield scored a run in the bottom of the seventh but could not come back against Caruso's strong pitching as she recorded strikeouts on five of the last six outs. Enfield took the first-inning lead on a hit by Rheena Ware, who stole a base and scored on a passed ball. After Granby had tied the score in the fourth inning, Ware repeated the effort in the home half of the inning and collected a third hit in the last inning.
South Windsor 4, Suffield 3. Jacquie O'Brien pitched South Windsor past Suffield, striking out twelve. Sara Cherepinsky and Jordan Barile each had a double and a single. Barile's double knocked in the winning run. April MaWha pitched a good game for homestanding Suffield. She also doubled at the plate. Brynn Scozzari had a hit and played well behind the plate. Jaime Pearsons also played well defensively.
Windsor 12, Hebron 0. Behind the pitching of Tracey Sanko, the Ravens derailed the Express at Welsh Park. Sanko pitched a complete game shutout, striking out 15 along the way. At the plate for Windsor, Amanda Ziaks went 4 for 4 with 3 runs scored, Kim Marris added two hits and scored two runs and Sanko helped herself out by going 3 for 4 and scoring two runs. Danielle pitched a complete game for Hebron. Stephanie Smith and Alyssa Yardis played well defensively.
West Hartford 9, Somers 7. West Hartford downed visiting Somers 9-7 behind a two-hit combined effort from Rebecca Demers and Divya Chari. Jennifer Alvarez supplied a good portion of the offense, going 4 for 4 with two triples and driving in five runs.
Vernon 5, Simsbury 3. Hannah Koch earned the complete game win over visiting Sinsbury, striking out eleven. Suzanne Carlson reached base 2 out of three times at the plate. Kendra Skoly added a single. Abbey Williams pitched well for Simsbury, allowing only two hits with 10 strikeouts. Lisa Martinelli had a single and 2 RBIs. Shanie Ballentine had a single and made some good defensive plays at third base.
Wednesday, July 28th
Vernon 6, South Windsor 1. Hannah Koch notched another win, a complete game two-hitter. Ashley Bloxam had a single and played outstanding defense at shortstop. Nicole Albertson had two singles and Jamie Boyko connected for a triple. Sara Cherepinsky had a good defensive game at first base for South Windsor. Jen Hunt did well behind the plate and Kristin Wolejko hit a double.
Windsor at Suffield. - rescheduled to Wednesday, August 4th.
West Hartford at Simsbury (MP) - rescheduled to Thursday, July 15th.

Friday, July 30th
Enfield 11, Simsbury 7. Enfield rallied from a 7-1 deficit behind strong relief pitching from Lauren Miles (5Ks). Alyssa Cannella hit a 3-run homer to start the comeback. Enfield got good defensive effort from Kyleen KLement and Amy Angeloni. Danielle Somen and Jill Roop had good games for Simsbury.
Granby 2, Windsor 1. This game was expected to be a low-scoring pitchers' duel with Granby's ace, Lisa Caruso, going against Windsor's Tracey Sanko. The game met all expectations as Granby edged Windsor 2-1. Earlier in the season, Granby won by the same score in eight innings as these two evenly matched teams fought it out.
Caruso, playing injured, gutted out the victory with a complete game 3-hitter, striking out eleven. Windsor's Sanko almost matched that performance, yielding five hits and striking out ten. Granby scored both runs in the third inning as Courtney McGuire singled and scored on Emily Bastiaanse's single when Windor misplayed the ball. This allowed Bastiaanse to advance to third base and score on sister Andrea Bastiaanse's sacrifice fly, which turned out to be the game winning RBI.
Windsor came back with a run in the 5th inning after Jackie Mendola walked and was knocked home on a hit by Margaret Sava. They threatened in the bottom of the seventh when Mendola drew another walk and stole second. The rally fell short as Caruso struck out the last two batters to end the game. Kat Edwards, playing second base, had a strong defensive effort for Windsor.

Monday, August 2nd
South Windsor 2, Somers 1. (from 7/5) Nicole Nixon (4IP,3Ks,1H)and Jacquie O'Brien (3IP,5Ks,1BB) combined on a one-hitter. Jackie King went 2 for 3 and scored one of South's runs. Sara Cherepinsky led the defense, playing solid at first and third bases. Tara Butler (6IP,4H,7Ks,4BB) pitched well for Somers and Sarah Hills was a wall behind the plate. Mindy Oswell had Somers' lone hit and run scored.
Vernon 16, Marlborough 0. Hannah Koch pitched a 2-hit shutout over Marlborough. Mary Gordon (two doubles), Rebecca Mattern (single,triple), Megan Coughlin (single,double) and Suzanne Carlson (double) were the main producers on the Vernon offense. Alyssa Hovanec caught a good game for Marlborough and also had one of the hits, as did Michelle Bernard. Chrissy Forand played well in the field.
Suffield 11, Enfield 8. Suffield defeated visiting Enfield 11-8 behind good pitching by April McWha. She and Caitlin McGunigle each had a pair of hits. Kat Spencer played well on defense. Kyleen Klement and Alyssa Cannella led Enfield's offense with two hits each.
Windsor 14, West Hartford 3. The visiting Ravens defeated West Hartford at Sterling field behind the pitching of Tracey Sanko, Abby Caron and Nicole Miller, who combined for a 3-hitter. For Windsor, Kat Edwards had two hits and a walk and scored three times. Alicia Wakefield reached base four times and scored twice and abby Caron had two hits and scored twice. Rachel Dolin played a good game at third base for West Hartford and Jennifer Alvarez played well at shortstop. Kristin Viberts walked twice and scored two runs. The game was called by the umpire after six innings because of darkness.
Granby at Simsbury (MP) - rescheduled to Sunday, July 18th.
Wednesday, August 4th
Vernon 6, Somers 3. Vernon downed visiting Somers 6-3. Katie Lotas had a good defensive game and also had a hit. Desirae Hewitt, Kendra Skoly and Suzanne Carlson all had base hits. Sarah Hills pitched a good game for Somers. Batterymate Alicia Courtois played well defensively . Leanne Golden led the hitters, going 2 for 3.
Enfield 22, West Hartford 9. Enfield defeated West Hartford with triples hit by Regina Falkowski, Dawn Ezold and Alyssa Cannella leading the offense. Kim Collins and Lauren Miles combined pitching efforts for the win. Amy Angeloni, Kyleen Klement and Rheena Ware executed a double play that highlighted Enfield's defense. Susan Scanlon was strong at second base and Kelsey Flanagan and Jess Crank combined for solid innings behind the plate. For West Hartford, Jess Matthews had two hits and played great left field. Mallory Crawford also had two hits. The game ended after the top of the sixth inning due to darkness.
South Windsor 15, Hebron 2. South Windsor beat the visiting Express by a score of 15-2. Nicole Nixon was the winning pitcher, striking out eight, issuing two walks and giving up two hits in six innings. Both Hebron runs were unearned. Kim Colla and Jordan Barile each went 3 for 4 with a double. Christine Gerrity also hit well for South Windsor. Rosie Boudreau and Jess D'Anzi led the Hebron defense, splitting time behind the plate. Megan Fenton had one of Hebron's two hits.
Windsor 7, Suffield 2. (from 7/28) The Ravens defeated Suffield in a make-up game at Welch Park. Tracey Sanko and Nicole Miller combined for a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts. Andrea Varney, Amanda Ziaks, Melissa Wilhelm and Jackie Mendola each had two hits for Windsor. Caylee Johanson, returning to the lineup from a broken finger on her throwing hand, played a great defensive game. For Suffield, Jamie Pearsons had a hit and played well in the field and April McWha pitched a good game. Suffield manager Ron Bayeur reported after the game that Caitlin Brault is home from the hospital and recovering nicely.

South Windsor 15, Marlborough 0. (from 7/2) Kim Colla pitched a two-hit shutout for South Windsor. Kristin Wolejko had three hits and Christine Garrity had two doubles. Christina Apatow and Stephanie Apatow both had hits for Marlborough. Ashley Lang played well defensively.

Friday, August 6th
Windsor 3, Enfield 0. The Ravens defeated Enfield in a hard fought game played under the lights at A.D.Higgins. For Windsor, Tracey Sanko pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only three hits and striking out eleven. She and Jackie Mendola both went 2 for 3 at the plate and Amanda Ross added an important hit. For Enfield, Nicole Serafin had a good hit and played well in the field. With Windsor ahead by two runs, Lauren Miles came into the game for Enfield and pitched well in relief of started Alyssa Cannella.
Somers 19, Marlborough 2. Michelle Milliken, Justine Monahan and Kayla Bower each had three hits and reached base on all five at-bats to lead the visiting Titans past Marlborough 19-2. Justine was also solid behind the plate on defense. Katie Kalisz, Ana Kopec and Amy Lemieux all made some fine defensive stops and Chrissy Swider did a nice job in the catcher's spot for Marlborough.
Hebron 3, Vernon 1. Molly Rathbun pitched a complete game for Hebron, allowing only two hits and striking out eleven. Rosie Boudreau provided the key hit in the 4th inning, driving in the go-ahead run. Emma Rathbun had a strong game behind the plate and went 3 for 3 on offense. Jamie Boyko and Dede Baker had the Vernon hits.

Monday, August 9th
Enfield 7, Suffield 2. Enfield defeated Suffield behind the pitching of Kim Collins (5Ks), with Lauren Miles pitching well in relief. Sarah Wenz, Amy Angeloni and Megan Kradas hit well and played strong defense. Kelsey Flanagan and Jess Crank combined solid efforts sharing innings behind the plate. For Suffield, left fielder Maggie Reeves made some great catches and Jamie Pearson had a good game defensively. April McWha pitched well for Suffield.
Somers 10, South Windsor 4. The Titans used a balanced hitting attack along with some "small ball" to pick up a 10-4 win over South Windsor at Field Road Park Somers. Jackie Shepard had two doubles and Michelle Milliken added two singles for the Titans. Tara Heffernan was solid behind the plate. Tara Butler picked up the win, scattering six hits, striking out ten and walking six. South Windsor was led by Kim Colla, who pitched the complete game and smacked a triple to the right-centerfield gap. Rochelle Normandin had two hits and an RBI and Sara Cherepinsky had two singles and two RBIs.
Granby 10, Marlborough 4.

Tuesday, August 10th
Granby 5, Suffield 4. (from 8/4) Granby remained undefeated, coming from behind to down visiting Suffield for their 14th win. Suffield trailed by a score of 3-1 entering the seventh inning but used consecutive walks, a fielder's choice and three straight hits by April McWha and sisters Brynn and Taryn Scozzari to tally three runs and take a 4-3 lead. Granby rallied back in the bottom of the seventh on hits by their own sister act, Emily and Andrea Bastiaanse. Andrea scored the winning run on Becca Gamble's 2-out RBI single. Alexis Mattia reached safely on a hit and a walk and scored twice for Granby.
Suffield's McWha pitched well, keeping Granby from mounting multiple run innings early in the game after threatening several times. The game featured excellant defense by both teams as Suffield catcher Caitlin McGunigle made a seventh inning tag while blocking home plate with Granby's Ashley Yucha doing the same in the sixth. Granby's right fielder Courtney McGuire made a heads-up play in the first inning, backing up an overthrow to first base and gunning down the runner at second.

Thursday, August 12th
Suffield 11, Simsbury 3. (from 8/6) Suffield won its final game 11-3 over Simsbury behind strong pitching from April McWha and good defense from Kat Spencer and Caitlin McGunigle. Mel Chapman and Maggie Reeves each had two hits for Suffield. Rachel Seider and Ashley Drake played well defensively for Simsbury. Abbey Williams pitched three strong innings, giving up only three hits. Becca Raymond and Lisa Martinelli each had a hit and an RBI.
Hebron 20, Marlborough 1. (from 7/28)
